    Hey guys –

This needed to be bumped for some of the new folks.

    Zach

Zach, can’t you make it a sticky topic, then it should appear at the top of all the boards?

I’m probably going to get ripped for this, but hey, it’s Christmas …

Anyone have any experience with the Snowbee Waldron?? Yes, I know, at sub 2K it’s not a bank-breaker, and you get what you pay for usually.

I like (from pics) the fact that you can adjust the “arms” to accommodate really big hands, or just to “flatten” out the whole vise, but still keep the correct plane for when you user the rotary function.

Also a nice Tube attachment available for it …

in reply to: Big Trout in South Park Ice Fishing! #32069

The images of Ice Fishing that pop up in my mind, are those of those little 15″ rods and tiny little reels

in reply to: Short Warmwater Rods #32063

But you know the river I fish, and there is seldom “tight quarters” there.

That’s why I mentioned “application” in my first post. One really does have to keep in mind that these rods were designed for the following … “we strongly recommend them for probing the mangroves or throwing huge flies for pike and muskies” (From Sage Site).

As with the #0 – #000 rods from Sage, they have specific areas in which they excel (short casts, smaller fish), but they still manage quite fine outside of those parameters as well.

Anyway, it’s Christmas, so here’s hoping everyone got something they like (read, something fishy) in their stockings

in reply to: End of my run #66274

As someone has mentioned – the end of one venture initiates the start of a new one. I’m new here, but would still like to express the best of luck to Phil, and may 2009 be as awesome, if not more, than what your run at American Angler was …

Are you referring to the new Sage Bass fly rods? http://www.sageflyfish.com/dyn_prodlist.php?k=83540

I’ve only ever seen one – did some custom work for a guy who is using it in estuaries and bushed-in saltwater applications.

The Sage (cannot comment on the others) is a powerhouse, and I reckon Sage have covered the market well with this addition.

It’s a awesome casting tool, and can turn over a huge/heavy fly with minimal effort. Depending on application, this is a great rod!

Edit: I’ll contact the guy I built it for, and get some fishing-feedback to you asap.

Hope they got all the nasties

    Oh my

in reply to: Skin Cancer #52664

My 1st run-in with skin-cancer was at varsity. A mate of mine was a life-guard, and in-and-out the sun for most of his life. In his 1st year they had to remove quite a bit of cancer from his back and neck, which affected movement in his left shoulder/arm – end of life-guard career

in reply to: RAB, you gotto try it… #56697

I can remember the following story very well …

Renowned author, artist and gentleman, Tom Sutcliffe fished South Island, NZ. Fishing was tough, and after throwing numerous patterns at a particularly large and particularly selective brown, Tom tied on a RAB, and showed it to the guide. The guide just “Hmmmphed”, and said “That’s a no-hoper mate”.

Tom covered the fish anyway (knowing how well the RAB worked on the difficult brown of the Witte River in Bain’s Kloof, SA), and hooked the 11lbs brown on the 1st drift.

After the pics and handshakes, the guides sauntered over to Tom and said “Let me see that fly again”

in reply to: All around bobbin? #56863

    Hi guys

Not really going to mention brand or a specific bobbin, but I prefer to have a really heavy bobbin personally. I’ve added some lead-tape to the legs of some of my lighter bobbins to add the extra weight I need (going on feel here). It just hangs much better when I tie – no other reason for that.

And yes, ceramic is the only bobbin you need to buy, unless there is something better out there that I don’t know of … yet

Very pretty, Mario.  It always amazes me the places trout can be found.

    Zach

Thanks Zach – will post some more pics as time goes by. Don’t want to empty the vault all in one go
