A friend of mine has a battery powered cpap that is good for 10hrs. It weighs around 5lbs. You can purchase extra batteries for about $100. We will be experimenting in July with a Brunton soalr roll to recharge it in the field.

I use a Ross Evolution 1 on my Sage TXL 7’6 3wt with a Sage double taper. It has worked flawlessly so far.

We use something similar to that made by 3m here in the shop. It is designed to replace electrical tape and really does only fuse to itself. You can not just slap a piece on something, it has to be wrapped. But it seals up extremely well. It is also very expensive.

I don’t know if it would be the same for browns as it would be rainbows, but I have seen big color variations in rainbows due to what they are feeding on. For example, last summer I was fishing in Mo and within 100yards of water I cought 2 fish that were strikingly different in color. One was your typical missouri rainbow and the other had bright copper on it’s gill plates and a deep red line with tons of spots. The second fish was caught on a hopper. Every time I go back to this spot I find this fish and he is always feeding on terestrials. Somone once told me that there is a chemical in beetles and other terestrials that can affect the color of a fish. This may not be true however, I am not biologist. The other possibility that was suggested to me is thus: the particular creek I was fishing has been stocked with some of the pure McCloud river rainbows, I guess it is possible that this fish was one of those or an offspring of such. Maybe somone with more knowledge can shed a little more light.

The LL is a lot slower. It was a beautiful casting rod but not for someone with a quick casting stroke.
In reality this new ZXL will be a true medium action rod, something that Sage does not currently have in their line. The closest is the TXL and it is only offered in 000-4 in short lenghts.

The action will be closer to the LL than the SLT. I have not cast one yet but they should be avail by the middle of September if not sooner. And yes it will be called the ZXL. Sage is making an attempt to switch all their rods to their Gen 5 technology and their rods on our a 5 year plan right now.

Day one I fished from Baptist to Tan Vat in the morning, and from baptist down about two miles in the afternoon. Day two I fished from Tan Vat to the park boundry. Most of my fish were cought on big nymphs, princes, 20 inchers, and tung teasers produced very well. I also cought a few on a small burgundy copper john. I found a lot of small mayfly nymphs under the rocks, I first thought they were tricos but they were too big. Maybe pmd’s?

Both mornings there were huge trico hatches and no fish rising, however when the hatche was over they were gorging themselves on the spinners and I pulled a lot of fish on a size 22 para trico that I had smashed with my pliers, since I had no spinner patterns that small.

I pulled a few fish off a #12 humpy, I think they were mistaking it for a hopper. Then I threw a hopper and got nothing. Who knows.

Most of my fish were browns, out of fast deep runs, my fishing buddy caught mostly rainbows out of the slower water.

I saw a lot of big fish but was not able to get any of them to move at a fly. I tried everything from streamers to nymphs, crayfish, cranefly larva. Nothing would move these fish. No worries though, that is just more motivation to go back.

I fully intend on fishing the bamboo rod that I eventually purcahse, however I am not buying it to replace my graphite rods.

I would have a dual purpose for a bamboo rod. It would get fished, not often, but I couldn’t justify it to just sit on the wall, however I understand that a quality bamboo rod is an investment that grows with time. I have looked at a few local rod builders, granted in Kansas we are a little short, and have not been satisfied with what I saw. I have looked at many of the rods recomended and have been fairly impresssed.

A little bird told me that the Sage SLT is going away and the ol LL taper is being brought back with the Generation 5 technology applied.

I prefer a copper, brown, or bronze, color. For prescription I the action optics division of smith makes some nice polycarbonate lenses.

The trip to the current was very successful and a great learning experience. We did not land any big ones all though I hooked a brown that was somewhere around 24in.

I mainly fish in Missouri and Arkansas and I try to stick to small water, with the occasional trip to Colorado. Most of my fishing is done with dries, however I will go down to get fish. I like, at least in a graphite rod, a medium to slow action.

I am planning on wade fishing , I have access to a canoe but I hate fishing out of it. Considering I have never been there where would you send me? I am interested in doing some trophy fishing as I hear there are some large trout in the current, possibly at night. But, I am open to whatever, I will be there monday evening and will leave wedensday evening.
