Found the link for the article on the Dodder. This was a survey on fish numbers done in a few rivers in the eastern river basins district. Page 25 onwards. I’m struggling to find info on the flow rates except for during flood events but I’ll find something!

http://www.rodtrip.com/2014/09/24/end-of-season-fishing-in-dublin/I spent a days fishing down in the west of Ireland on Sunday trying for some Atlantic Salmon. The weather was very nice and the water was quite low so it made things quite difficult. There was plenty of fish showing in the river but they were quite coloured and don’t take a fly too easily. I think there was one salmon caught for the days fishing from around 16 anglers over the 8 beats. I managed to get a couple of sea trout (sea run browns) on a dry fly. There was some fish sipping flies from the surface I thought they were small brownies because it was such a tiny rise, but they turned out to be some nice sea trout.
Its a very pretty spot to fish and I will be back again next year some time and hopefully with better conditions.

Have been having some good evenings fishing into darkness the last few trips out. Mostly been catching on small olive patterns and some big elk hair caddis patterns towards dusk.
Listened to the podcast this morning. Was interesting to hear how the Salmon actively come up through the water for the fly. With the brown trout fishing there are quite a few rivers that are reasonably priced that you can get fishing on yourself without having to use a guide. When I went I couldn’t afford to get a guide so did everything solo and caught some nice fish. I didn’t catch any huge fish but I’d say if I was to fish the same river again I’d have a better chance. I wish I was going back this month.
I caught this rainbow with very dark colouring. It was almost black compared to the other rainbows which were all very silvery with a faint pink stripe. I have not caught too many rainbows before is there any reason that this fish was much darker than the others?
Here is one of the fish caught. Their colours are quite pale in comparison to the Irish trout. The river shot is jus before there was a water release upstream and flooded the whole river so no more fishing today.

http://theirishangler.blogspot.ie/I have not been able to get out a huge amount recently with work. The few evenings I have managed to get out has been productive with the sedge (caddis) flies hatching pretty well. The fish get pretty acrobatic when chasing these flies which is always fun. Dusk and dawn are the best times to fish at the moment. I was fishing till 11pm the other night and it was still bright which is always fun. Not too many pictures to show from the last few outings. Just this guy with some nice colours.
