I fish a Bauer M1 on the Scott G2 885/4 and thought it was a great marriage. Bauer reels are tough, reliable, and the customer service is great if you need it.

September is a great time to be on the Bighorn. The crowds have thinned out, Black caddis hatch in the evenings, and the weather is very nice. I got married in Montana and spent the whole month of September on the Bighorn as our honeymoon. We went back two years later and spent another September on the Bighorn. Here are the flies that you will have mucho success with:

Pink soft hackle sow bugs #16-18
Tan soft hackle sow bugs #16-18
    Orange scuds #16-18
    Black,red,cream thread midge larva #18-22
Black cdc caddis with green bodies #18 (both the emerger and the dry)
    Pink Ray Charles #16-18
    Gray Ray Charles #16-18

If you have these flies on hand you will catch fish all day long. During September the flow will be around 1500 cfs and the fish will be stacked in the seams of the fastest water. And they are HOT this time of year.

Let me know if you have any questions about anything.

    Hey Mike,

I float the Hiwassee alot and was looking for something I have never fished. My local flyshop runs guided trips on the Elk and he has been telling me how good the fishing can be.

    Thanks

    Hey Zach:

I sold the sp because it was a three piece and became cumbersome during travel and I also have recently developed an itch for a new rod.

I have to say the Hands on approach Scott uses in making their rods is very appealing to me. I really like the E2 series they have came out with but am not real happy with the components used on the rods. I have not had a chance to cast the G2 yet, but thought the original G was a bit slow for my taste.

I will be using it as my go to rod. I spend alot of time in a drift boat , but also will use it for wade fishing everything from small nymphs to dries to occasionally
throwing big streamers. I am not someone who has alot of rods. I usually have a couple in different weights that I use for most applications. I really am looking for my meat and potatoes rod if you know what I mean.

I am using an image I have on smugmug. I put the url in and checked the ‘I have my own pic’ but it still does not come up.

I used the url that was in my address box when I was viewing the picture.
