2008 was a great year for me and its hard to pick my favorites but here are a few of the more memorable fish…

Caney Fork Brown, caught in August on a #20 zebra midge after 15 minutes of sight fishing…

First time chasing lake-run rainbows in the southeast…

Best brown trout in the Smokies for the year caught in July…

First time I’ve ever had a trout take me to my backing…big Gunnison River rainbow…one of the strongest fish I’ve ever played…

    First time fishing the Cumberland…

Fall on the Caney Fork was great this year…

Within the last year I’ve gone in the opposite direction and downsized to a lanyard and a couple of fly boxes.

I’ll second Wears Valley.  My extended family gets a cabin/chalet in that area every other year for Christmas and my favorites are always the ones in Wears Valley.  You can take the back way into the park and be on Little River at Metcalf Bottoms in 5 minutes.  The Townsend area is nice also and a little farther from the craziness known as Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg.  This link (http://troutfest.org/PAGES/Where.htm) has most if not all of the places to stay in Blount County (Townsend, Walland, Maryville).  Bearly Rustic Cabins is a good one in the Townsend area…

If you make it down, give me a holler when it gets closer and I can point you in the right direction for fishing…

With the weather turning cooler, I’ve started taking a campstove and enjoying something hot if I’m fishing near the car.

Thanks to everyone for the kind words.

Kevin, I fish all the TN tailwaters from time to time including the HI quite a bit.  Also I worked at LRO this past summer…any of that ring a bell?  Its always interesting to find out where I know people from…

Cameron, here are a couple of links to some more on the Gunnison portion of my time in CO this past summer…

This was the third year in a row that I’ve been able to fish that area and it never gets old.

Sounds like a great trip and this is the best time of year to go without the crowds.
