Well here is my take on it.

I’ve been through several, the Sony’s actually seem to take the best pictures and hold up well too.

in reply to: COMPETITION 5 WEIGHTS I WANNA GO LONG #14095

Uhh yeah, 120′ is a pretty high goal with a 5 wt floating line and I’m a pretty good caster.

in reply to: Rod handles #14066

I am probablly going to try a synthetic grip on one of the next rods I build.

in reply to: a few flies #55253

Mike, in the past I’ve just stuck it in a vice (not a fly vice but a real shop vice) and then bent it by bending it over with a thick piece of flat metal.

in reply to: a few flies #55250

Nice, I would suggest getting some piano wire and integrating those smaller spinners directly into the pattern.

hey, if you do wind up finding a cheap UV light at home depot that will cure UV knot sense indoors make sure I hear about it.

in reply to: Question re: Draw-Bar Drags #13956

well, that advice on backing off the drag after use is pretty standard for any reel with a drag, cork or synthetic.

in reply to: Where would you go? #13983

thats a sweet boat, no doubt, but its nowhere near the size of the Titanic….

in reply to: Perceived Value #13936

I have cast some bad cheap fly rods, these are usually ones that flex in a very uneven manner.

in reply to: Fly Line Color? #13921

Well we will never know ‘exactly’ what fish actually see but I’ll definitly give it a look if I ever see it on a shelf.

oh, and don’t be too quick to laugh at your friends.

in reply to: Fly Line Color? #13918

Its been three years but I remember it as still being very hard to tell, even up close, viewing it against the sky is what makes it really hard.

in reply to: Fly Line Color? #13916

you know I wish I had one of those clear floaters that are available now when I was looking at lines in the pool.

in reply to: Fly Line Color? #13914

No, don’t worry, I didn’t take your reply as an argument.

in reply to: Fly Line Color? #13912

Does this mean I can throw away all my dubbing and just use one color on my dry flies?

Actually, Flatlander, with large popper, hopper, and gurlger type patterns you really cant tell, at least as far as the body is concerned, you can make out color if the light is right on legs, tails or anything else you have hanging off the pattern that light can shine through.

in reply to: Any rod builder out there? #13876

well, like Zach said, even if you do make some slight cosmetic mess ups it still doesn’t mean you won’t have a rod that will fish well and last many years.

in reply to: Any rod builder out there? #13874

Oh, wait, your building a BIIx for your first build?

in reply to: Any rod builder out there? #13873

Just take your time and mock up the grip and reel seat mounting really well before you glue it all together.
