Does Orvis still have a store in Montpelier?  As a kid I was lucky enough to have a grandfather who was also crazy about fishing.. my first outfit was orvis.. I remember picking it out.. but I could swear it was Montpelier, but it could have been Manchester…  (Yep… I cut my teeth in VT)…

i lived in VT from 02-07 and didn’t see a store in Montpelier.

I just picked up Bill Bryson’s amazing “Made in America.”  It’s a linguistic history of American speech – totally freaking fascinating.  I’ve learned so much cool stuff I have dog-eared the pages re-reading it to people.

at the risk of ridicule…. A Short History of Nearly Everything is another Bryson book that will have you starting every sentence with “Did you know….”

I’ve lived in Vermont for the past five years and found a couple of books you may be interested in..

In the company of trout: True stories, ruminations, and Vermont guidance (Unknown Binding)
    by Peter Shea (Author)

Fishing Vermont’s Streams & Lakes: A Guide to the Green Mountain State’s Best Trout and Bass Waters (Backcountry Guides) (Paperback)
    by Peter F. Cammann (Author)

of course there are also a couple of other books that are more ‘guide books’, one of which is at least worth a look:

Flyfisher’s Guide to Northern New England: Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine (The Wilderness Adventures Flyfisher’s Guide Series) (The Wilderness Adventures Flyfisher’s Guide Seires) (Paperback)
by Steve Hickoff (Author), Rhey Plumley (Author)

    best.

I’ve never been to that corner of the world but I’ll trust your word that this is a problem.

While Prosek isn’t my favorite fishing writer, he makes the short list.

    Eric & Paul,

I was thinking of the Little J or Yellow Cr. this year. There are others, but that’s the two I have in mind.
Eric, I will be up to help with the painting on one or two days this week. I will have a paint brush and a 5wt with me! Not sure what days, but I’ll let you know.

    hey jason,
Let me know if you end up going to yellow creek and want any info.

I don’t think anyone has mentioned James Prosek’s “Fly Fishing the 41st”.
