Any musky on the fly is a super accomplishment…the first is a landmark in any fly anglers life:)
Congrats to your buddy.
FYI to all interested in the musky facet…Saturday, March 24th 2011 the first ever Musky Fly Fishing World Championship will be held in Rock Island TN.
This event is mainly about conservation (funds generated will go to musky research and conservation locally) and fellowship with the competition being friendly and inspired by learning about this great sportfish. I hope everyone interested and able will consider attending!!
I’ll be there and I know that the guides I work with up in Wisconsin will be there as well. I have yet to catch a southern musky on the fly personally – but have HIGH HOPES this March!
Again David – Congrats to your fishing buddy 🙂
Hope to see you two in March in Rock Island!!

Lucky is back in Musky Country now…pretty much been all about these guys the past week!

MemberMike…I got reels that run both ways throughout the entire arsenal. No rhyme or reason really. Clients come to us lefty and righty so it works well to have some of each…I guess that’s it.
Neal…I’ll prolly regret typing this someday but it felt really good to have a tiny rod in my hand. I’m happy to be casting whatever for well, whatever man. The crappie just started to come in from deep water up here now and we be fixin to Get Some in the next day or two now…
Here is some more stuff…
Things continue to heat up in Musky Country…last week saw the conditions fluctuate a great deal – it dropped to 40F from the 70’s and put a big damper on stuff…oh well, makes for a good day of photo editing and emailing and fly tying and such.
Got into some decent minnow trapping after a big thunderstorm on Tuesday night…

The object of the predator fishes desire in early May in Musky Country…and a good place to begin fly design;)Got back to the troot stream a few more times…still a good Hendrickson emergence…

Getting bent deep by fatty salmo truttas!

And the first warmwater float of the 2011 campaign…

Bronzebacks are fat with pre-spawn cargo and on the hunt…a few pike as well…but still NO musky…yet!
A view of basecamp…Boulder Lodge landing from the dam on Ghost Lake.Later :cool

Membersawheet!
makes me ache a little bit at this time of the season…
thanks for the musky love 🙂

MemberThanks for the props fellows. It’s nice to know someone reads your words now and then. That is one of the most interesting things about being published…lack of feedback!
Seriously. You write something, it gets published and you actually wonder if you reached anyone!
I do enjoy telling a story. Paris is a fine editor and I will contribute more to his efforts in the future.
HAHA…no trout tramp stamp or anything of the sort for me…now maybe if my new girlfriend wants to work something like that up…hmmmm ;D
I have thought about getting some kind of musky tat…a big fish swimming over my shoulder and taking a bite out of a nipple or something like that?
It has been an interesting off-season thus far. I look forward to some more writing time and actually see the value in building time for it into my ‘hectic’ hobo agenda.
No shit!
😀Thanks Again!!
Now go out and see Musky Country – Zero 2 Hero on the Fly Fishing Film Tour…and let me know what you think 🙂

MemberFor me the bite off issue is not so much one of never getting taken…it’s a matter of fishing as pure and true as I am able…and living with the agony of defeat when it happens.
Not that flouro is any less manufactured than wire mind you.

MemberNice Work TP!
Shoot I been having issues with bite-offs this season too…
Had a big gal saw through night before last…heartbreaking. But I’ll just see what happens…who knows maybe I’ll convert to some form of wire…doubt it though!
I live for the take mostly. But it is heartbreaking to hook up and have a cut-off. Really kills the buzz!!
Here are some recent snaps from Musky Country…enjoy…

Hate to admit it but summer is setting up here in Musky Country.
It’s been a good one…juicy as Hell!
Lucky just scored his second hat trick of the season last night…he’s been on fire and I’d put him up against any musky stick anywhere…Period! BTW – That is fish #56 in da boat for the season…not too shabby :cool2010 has been a wet and a hot one…lots of extreems…

lots of this kind of stuff…and this…

I can not recall a season where I had to pull over and seek shelter, bail and endure all day soakings more…
That is alright…cuz that kind of stuff leads to this kind of stuff…

And this kind of stuff then follows if you are living right…

Of course there is a great deal more to it than just the fish…but everyone likes some Porn eh?
Lots of visits from friends, family and in one case Royality :bow

Yup, we have hosted clients, relatives, friends, newspaper folk, film makers…so called ‘important’ people and mostly the common man…but Tom Bie from The Drake visiting Musky Country really gave us the warm fuzzies :cheerThe Chief is alwright…

Although he did start something with my Gal…And he did have quite a few odd requests…

He liked to be parked in the shade along the riverbank in order to bark out his orders to the assorted underlings that he constantly deals with…Truth is he is a simple fella…and he was sooo happy catching a whole bunch of muskies…look at that grin :Roll Eyes

We had a good time Chief…hope you did too…see Ya back soon! :cool

From here on out it is anyones guess as to what is in store for the Musky Tribe.

My season has been utterly fullfilling. Angling and angling friends have gotten this fellow through a very tough time recently…and I can see light at the end of the tunnel…
A little of this…

And a little of that…

And everything lines up real swell.
So keep in touch…we got a lot of water to fish and a lot of season left…what we call The Tenderloin Time…
We’ll continue scouting and opening up new waters…that’s been the theme thus far in 2010 – New Horizons and New Waters!

Oh, I almost forgot…keep yer eyes peeled for a cool new film project this autumn…

Dog Bless You All
As Pastor Ben from MT puts it – May You All fish with Grace and Peace!

MemberLittle time to do anything but fish, eat and sleep. interwebs are for the rare off day. Wisco is fresh with water for the first time in many a season.
We’ve been working for em but finding contact with enough regularity to keep everyone pleased…with a bump in water temps we are anticipating a superb angling forcast for the next month.
Predators are on the prowl and The Musky Tribe in Upper Wisco have full scent and are baying deep into the musky heartland…
Enjoy and Stay Tuned!

Got our new Basecamp in May…

It’s kind of sobering to be 41 and have your new place show up on wheels…but it is Pimp and has many advantages that we are just discovering…even a midget stripper loft…so if any one knows of a good midget stripper we are hiring! Some Upper Wisco scenery porn…

Life is Good…lots of friends and fish…

Vlad the Impaler stopped by!

He wants his smallmouth back…

Of course we don’t know nothin’

Upper Wisco Groceries

Stuck to some rocks…

And some monkey porn…just the tip…only for a second…

I use just about whatever I can get my hands on above 2/0
My patterns use a variety of stuff…but my all round fav for most stuff is the B10S Stinger in 2/0 by Gamakatsu.

MemberI really like this report Dood
Thanks
This kind of experimenting and learning is what makes this sport so dang grand…DIY trips that progressively lead from skunk pie to Holy Cow I Got One! are part of the fiber that knits this whole crazy quilt together.
Good one ya and I can’t wait to see what is next now that you got the monkey off yer back!
Congrats
