I recently built a 12wt tarpon and shark rod on a Winston Boron IIx blank that I bought from Madison River Fishing Company. They still have a 10wt blank discounted to $199. This is a real nice blank. The rods originally sold for over $700 before they were discontinued.
I’m not sure if the uncanny valley, more commonly known as Bukimi no Tani Gensh[ch333], has anything to do with it. That seems to require an assumption of athropomorphism, which may, or may not apply. I think kent is correct in his assessment. PS I am not covering IFTD this year due to an upcoming trial which we’re getting ready for. Just bad timing – I’ll be there next year.

I don’t know a lot about IFTD (well, actually nothing about it), but Zach is right, the lead time for new products is 5 months minimum. You’ve got to show your product to retailers, get orders, manufacture the goods and get them to the market by Thanksgiving. It is one of those situations where “common sense” to one person doesn’t fit with “common sense” to another person, which begs the question whether it was ever “common sense” at all.
