I’d love a new 8wt Helios for some great streamer ripping action. Also, I could really use some new 9.5′ cataract oars.
Will settle for the usual, several hundred meter spools of fluoro tippet, 20 or so leaders and four or five hundred packs of hooks.
One of the perks and reasons bead fishing gained popularity is the fact that eggs are natural foods that are often taken deep by the fish.
In keeping with todays ethics and personal feelings towards catch and release fishing, it’s mighty tough to release a fish that is bleeding badly because it took an egg too deep. Well, it’s not tough to release them….it’s just tough for them to survive…..even if the line was cut and the hook left in them.
The bead method almost always insures a safe hook set in the lower corner of the jaw with the egg bead hanging safely out of the fishes mouth. So with beads, you’ll actually have much less fish mortality from taken the “egg” too deep.
Also, with the help of nail polish and the unlimited size and colors of beads, people can match just about any egg they want to match.
It’s America and everybody is entitled to their opinions…..but I think it makes a lot of sense.
String-yank method, see picture below. (A) Wrap a string around the midpoint of the bend in the fishhook. (B) Depress the shank of the fishhook against the skin. (C) Firmly and quickly pull on the string while continuing to apply pressure to the shank.
I’ll second Zach’s comments about the Patagouchie dry bag. My only complaint is that it doesn’t hold all the stuff a guide wants it to hold…..but then again, no bag does.

Make sure you uninstall the program. Before reinstalling, disable your antivirus. I believe I remember Norton messed up my first install of ACDSee Pro.
This would be my first guess. Photoshop Elements is a great program and you can do a lot with it.
Darrin, if you would care to describe your problems with the software, I would be glad to see if I might can help. You can post me privately or just reply here. Since you already have the program, it might be worth your while to see if you can solve the issue(s).

I have used the saltwater taper for inland bass fishing with a 9 and 10 weight. Nice line when you need to punch heavier flies through the wind.
Have used the freshwater version of the clear lines. Very stealthy.

Second, can you put a watermark/signature on photos without Photoshop? I dont have it and probably never will. Any other possibilities?
ACDsee Pro offers pretty good control of batch signitures on images. You can also create flash slide shows for web use, which is another tool to help prevent image theft. Of, course, it’s primarily a workflow, database tool. But one of the best for the price.
Sadly, I don’t think Picasa has the feature.
Adobe Lightroom also lets you add a batch sig, but there is no control over location or fonts of the sig. You have to fill in the copyright info first in the metadata for the watermark option to work, but that can be done automatically with the import feature and a copyright preset.
Having used both ACDSee and Lightroom, I really like the feature set of ACDSee and the price, but Lightroom makes it so easy to import, backup, export and convert files, plus it uses Adobe Camera Raw. If you are a photoshop user, you would probably want Lightroom. But you can do an awful lot with either program even without a photo editor.
Metadata is pretty useless for image protection since 1) if the image displays, it can be copied to the clipboard as a Bitmap totally bypassing the metadata, and 2) Windows picture viewer in Explorer allows you to easily change the copyright metadata with Properties.
There are lots of watermark shareware programs out there for around $30. If you are looking for free options, I would try the GNU program Chad mentioned.
This is something I just got into this year and boy am I glad I did! There really is something special about fighting these fish with nothing to confine them.
If you are comfortable casting 60+ feet while standing up to your knees in water and good with a double haul, then a 9′ or 10′ #8 is all you will need to get the job done. Floating lines, such as the Clouser coldwater will be of the most use in this application.
Shooting heads really take the work out of the repetitive casting that is sometimes necessary, and I have been very happy with Rio’s line of shooting heads. Add a two-hander into the mix and throwing a Clouser 100’+ time and time again won’t be a problem.

That solves that mystery. I’ve noticed that Gierach’s pieces in Fly Rod & Reel magazine have been nicely illustrated with water colors for the past year or so. May be the same guy.

I have used a glow-in-the-dark material for the top side (or underbelly) of a clouser on trout waters. Works for me in the spring. How much would depend on the type of water you are fishing. Less in clearer, slower water. More in heavy current. I usually don’t mess with charging it up, I just like the whitish color for the underbelly of certain streamers. Makes a nice clouser.

PS I also tied a big streamer with it once to go in a fly plate for our TU chapter. Thought it would be cool to have a glow-in-the-dark fly in the plate to freak out the winning bidder first time he or she walked past it in the dark.
