Can’t understand the whole “Orvis Hatin'” thing. Is it THE best stuff made? No. Is it the cheapest? No.

Orvis has done a lot for the sport I love. There are just as many credit card fiisherman wearing Simms this-and-that and Patagucci this-and-that as there are Orvis “Newbies”. There seems to be a lot of hate for a company for no real tangible reason.

I’ll tell you what.. some of you guys are hilarious!  The sentiment shared by many that some manufactuers are more blue collar or working man class cracks me up.  If we were working men or truly blue collar, we would all be dunking worms, throwing hardware and fishing with zebco reels.  For goodness sakes, we are all flyfishermen and women, and who gives a s**t what gear you use as long as it works for you.  Guess what, all the rods that i own that come to mind are Orvis.  And most of my reels.. GASP.  I guess that makes me a yuppy.  Seriously, I’ve never laughed so hard in my life.

I’ve seen guys with orvis rods, TnT’s, Sage, Winston, and guess what, no matter how much money you spend, its still the guy holding on to the rod that has to make it work.

I have to agree with Eric on this one, these threads have made me laugh. Must admit that many people on the drink have probably laughed at me as well. With my wading boots duct taped together, not to mention my hat and jacket not matching. This time of year I wear whatever will keep me warm. In the summer I wear whatever will keep me cool. Typically, shorts (with extremely white legs) sandals and a T-shirt. Who cares what I look like, I just want to catch fish. This is mostly dictated by what I can afford. I like to get Orvis stuff after it has been discontinued for a new model, because I can get it very cheap. If it works good for me then I consider it a good product, if it isn’t functional I get rid of it regaurdless of the brand name. Unfortunately, I don’t think this attitude will get me many chicks, but I am married so I guess it doesn’t matter.
