Thanks Eric. I wouldn’t have thought to crop it below the waterfall. I haven’t developed much of an eye for tweaking shots to strengthen them. I appreciate the insight.
Chesapeake is drilling all over the Fayetteville Shale in Arkansas also. Several agencies noted sediment pollution from its installation of pipelines into streams at a conference I attended last fall. So far, I do not think ADEQ has done anything about it. The state agencies are hamstrung because of politics.
We now also have a company wanting to drill several wells of 2,000 feet and pump up to 850,000 gallons of water a day from them in the Calico Rock area to produce fracking sands. The water will be pumped into a large quarry on 2,000 acres, and they have a permit to discharge into the local streams if necessary.
One thing that will help agencies monitor this in the future is real time satallite imagery.
I recommend if anyone finds sediment discharges or road cuts causing sediment run-off in your area you contact the feds–EPA or USFWS. You might get more help from them than the local boys.
Zach, Bull Shoals tailwater has fished very well from a boat since Columbus Day when the corps started making stable releases. Flows have been ranging from around 3,000 to 8,000 cfs, and the water is good down past Crooked Creek. Flow should continue to be quite reasonable well into November, but we are looking at heavy generation in December on Bull Shoals and Norfork tailwaters.
Tiny Blue-Winged Olives started coming off about two weeks ago on overcast and drizzly days. Nymphing and small streamer fishing has been excellent. Great flows and conditions for catching numbers. Bigger fish are hard right now due to the spawn, although we continue to see an occasional big fish when slowing down and fishing the depths.
I saw Mr. Matt Tucker on the water the other day, and it looked like they were making a good day of it too, although there was a lot of sittin’ around on the island at Stetson’s shoal. ;D
A customer caught a four pound rainbow in front of Gaston’s restaurant a few weeks ago. It had run the gauntlet and managed to get caught and released by a fly fisher ;).

John, thanks for the input. I’m going to keep playing around with this since I enjoy the results. I just tend to forget about the opportunities for long exposures when I’m out and about. Not sure why.
Heres one from this morning on a local stream. I couldn’t really do much with these until recently when I got a circ polarizer.

Rob, you must be referring to the local rattlesnakes…yes, those locals are bad.
I don’t think you need to worry too much about the human kind of locals.
The savage is a tough wading stream, but there is rarely a hole in it that you will disappear in.
The yough and North Branch on the other hand can leave you inserious danger.
Interesting that the savage shocking surveys show the same number of fish as previous years.
