Savage is one of the nicest rivers in the East. 5 mile tailwater, really nice looking browns. big wild brookies. I’ve caught lots of rainbows in there and lots of cutts in the North Branch. Very scenic areas, and if you love big pocket water, you’ll love the savage. The hatches were good too. I believe the North Branch had some rearing pens where they actually hatched the eggs in the river in pens, and then released them. Contrary to popular belief, the NB is primarily a stocked river with little natural reproduction. The Savage is all wild other than the up-swimmers form the North Branch.
This is a North Branch Cutt or Cutt bow I suppose.

For rods built overseas, these Red Truck rods are very expensive.
I’d say these rods are in the same class as e.g. Winston VSL and Passport series. These rods cost $200 and $300 which is a very nice price.Haven’t seen & cast the Red Truck rods (kinda impossible since I’m in Europe), so they might be very nice rods (both casting, cosmetics and fishing capability), but still very expensive.
All fly rods are ridiculously expensive in my opinion.
I own two of the Red Truck rods, and a closet full of top of the line gear from Sage, Scott, Winston, T&T.
Anyone know who is making the Red Truck Deisel rods? I looked at them online after reading Dave’s post.

But, they SCREAM Sage/Redington. (grips, blanks, rod script, etc) And I am hoping to not hitch any more wagon’s in that direction.

I can assure you Sage/Redington is not making the Red Truck rods. The finishes, blanks and especially the ferrules are nothing like any Sage. The are made offshore to Lelands specs. Where or by whom, they haven’t told me. But they are solid sticks. Really nicely built and they’ve gotten everything right for fishing. In my opinion there are fishing rods and casting rods. These rods are a great fishing rod.
John I want you to know that almost every time I see a hawk I think about your pictures. The population in the PA/MD area is really exploding as well. I now see about three on my ride to and from each day.

1. Can anyone explain the point of shooting doves?
2. Using lead split shot is illegal (or at least not sold) in some states (NY for example) because of its affects on environmental concerns. I do believe it to have a negative impact, particularly where water and resources are concerned.
3. The Bismuth stuff is crazy expensive…I think Cabela’s sells it for $28 for a dozen or maybe 15.
4. I have got my limit on Canada’s twice this season. Only 2 of the birds were cripples. All obviously shot with steel. I think most would agree that lead is certainly more deadly, but steel is effective enough. Kent Fast Steel and Winchester Super X (DriLok’s) are my favorites.
5. Will be interesting to see how many shotgun barrels get trashed by Remington’s new HyperSonic shell. It claims something like 1,770 fps.Point of shooting doves?
