I think you’re supposed to have a safety chain on an outboard for that reason.

I don’t see my backing enough to really care in most cases, at least for trout reels.

What is dry shake actually containing? ..

Eric, it’s fumed silica epoxy. Mostly used as a thickener for marine use adhesives etc. $6 buys you a lifetime supply. I bought mine six or so yrs ago and haven’t made a dent. Link:

Technically it is not epoxy.

It is fumed silica, indeed.

I would agree with Roy, it isn’t necessarily gouging.

Pa is loaded with creeks that aren’t fished this time of year that harbor 8-9 inch brookies and the occasional 10 incher.

good to see you are out.

Next time give me a ring we could fish every day until October and not the same stretch twice.
