I’ve had this debate with my friends too. “Steelhead” is a non-scientific descriptive term based on how they look. These were football shaped and bright chrome. They are all Onchorhynchus mykiss,
The one takeaway I have from it is this: If you are ever 4,000 miles from shore in an open boat without enough food, when your crew mates start dying, use them as bait instead of eating them. That seems to be a better strategy. 🙂
