The Itinerant AnglerIt sure would be cool if a lot of the guys who introduced themselves in this thread would swing by and say hi again.
Lurkers, I am looking at you.

MemberBrad Eaton here. Live in Chicago, IL and work selling software and 3D printers for the 9-5. Do most of my fishing in the Driftless up in WI, or somewhere up in MI. The fam owns a house centrally located amongst some of the best steelhead water (IMO) on the east side of Lake MI and I try to spend as much time on the water up there as possible.
Love meeting new people, searching for new water and introducing people to the sport. Envy the photos you guys share and wanted to join the fun. Thanks for the forum and all the work you do Zach!

The Itinerant AnglerGreat to have you Darryl. Is it common for South African anglers to get over to New Zealand? It’s a long way for you too, but I wondered if there was a favorable flight schedule.

MemberA shout out from Central Mass. in the little town of Oxford, I’ll be 52 on St.Patty’s day with 3 of my 4 kids gone from the nest.
I am a HVAC tech/pipefitter and my specialty is industrial chilled water systems, mainly I build and service data centers for all you IT folks. I tie flies and build rods for a hobby and some extra cash. Just getting into photography.
Mostly fish for freshwater locally and in NE CT. and stripers, blues and false albies from shore and in the kayak on Cape Cod and RI shoreline. I do a yearly trip to chase steelhead and salmon on the Salmon River in NY.
Thanks for hosting a cool site Zach

Hi Zach, I don’t think it’s that common amongst South Africans as it’s far and expensive (especially with our exchange rate being weak). I went in 2011 and flew from Cape Town to Johannesburg (2 hours), Johannesburg to Sydney (12 hours) and Sydney to Christchurch (4 hours). You can get cheaper flights via Dubai or Singapore but with stop overs it’s even longer. The trip is however well worth it if you can get out there. Hoping to get there again in 2016.

MemberThis is a formal introduction after rediscovering this site. My name is Dan Wood. I am a 34 year old Emergency Physician in Atlanta, GA. I spend as much of my free time as possible fly fishing here in the SE. I’m also an extremely amateur photographer. I occasionally posted a few years ago when a buddy introduced me to the site after coming across some of Zach’s photography. I revisited it recently after hearing a few of the podcasts for the first time. The new site looks amazing Zach and I love the gear reviews. Thanks for hosting this awesome community.

Stu HastieMemberI guess I should introduce myself too. Stu Hastie. I’ve been lurking / posting for a while now. From the North Island of NZ, I’ve been flyfishing for the last 20 of my 47 years. My day job and a busy family schedule sees me away from the water more than I’d like, but I’m sure that’ll change in time. I have 3 young boys, who are just starting to take up the fly rod, which has made for some very memorable fishing.
I’m a keen photographer, just on the brink of getting myself an aquatech housing. I find myself getting closer and closer to the water, so it only makes sense to take the plunge and get in there and see what happens. I still don’t have myself a website, but hope to within the next 12 months.
I really appreciate all the great photographers who frequent this forum willing to share their knowledge, and or course Zach, for all your time and energy you put in here. Love those podcasts!May 2, 2014 at 1:17 pm #87573
bstalterMemberHi everyone,
Brad here. I grew up in Mass about 30 mins from the cape. Been fly fishing for about 6 years. I now live in Syracuse, NY and have tons of trout water all within 20 mins, and we have lake run salmon and steelhead about 45 mins north coming out of lake ontario. I love going home for the striped bass and salt water fish. Glad to be a part of the forum.
I’m 33 and work as a college administrator. I deal with the students who live on campus and all the fun activities they get themselves into.

The Itinerant AnglerNice having you Brad. Can you fish for stripers off the cape (is this Cape Cod we’re talking about?) from the shore or do you need a boat? How far is that from Montauk? As you can tell I’ve never been up that way, but we all pretty much love stripers here.
Zach

MemberZach,
To answer your question about the cape, YES I often fish for stripers from the shore along the cape and also RI.
I am in central Mass near Worcester and it’s a about a 2 hour drive to the mid cape and 1/1/2 hour to Rhode Islands Point Judith
Montauk is on Long Island, New York and a good drive from the cape 3-4 hours and at least a 60 mile boat ride as the crow flies.
The schoolies should be in any day now as the herring are arriving already, even with the cooler water temps.
I will be fishing the cheeky fly tournament on the cape on May 31st, which is always a good time. It is fly only wading from shore only. I do get out in the kayak chasing stripers when time allows. Hopefully this summer I can do that more as a new job is on the horizon.
Hope this helps
