    I have Yellowstone pretty well figured now, but I have never fished in Idaho at all.

    It has been quite a few years since I was on the HF in mid-Sept., but I do remember a lot of small (#18 to #24) BWOs at that time. We used small soft hackle and dun patterns. Lots of weeds in the river too.

    Call or email Trout Hunter for more specifics and I would recommend trying their tippet material too while out there. If you use CDC, Trout Hunter has the best around in my opinion.

    In the West Yellowstone area if you want a rustic cabin at a reasonable price in the scenic Gallation National Forest between the lakes (Hebgen & Quake) see http://www.campfirelodgewestyellowstone.com/. Awesome breakfast too that will keep you full all day.

    Actually it wasn’t that bad. I have seen a lot worse in YNP. We had a lot of hikes and exploring to do so we missed some of the crowds. The animal stops were not as bad as I expected for this July. In the early morning and evenings there was hardly delays. Lodging and campgrounds in the park were full, but we stayed outside the park about 20 minutes away in a cabin in the Gallatin National Forest.

    I was glad we were not camping this time, because due to the high fire danger no campfires or even charcoal barbacues were allowed.

    I have personally witnessed creeks running into the Hooch below Lanier turning brown with the lightest rain. These creeks come from housing complexes with parking lots, cul-de-sacs, and new construction.

    It just cracks me up that in David’s world the D800 is a “light” camera.  🙂  “Why, you don’t even need an assistant to carry it!”  Hahahah.

    I wouldn’t expect the 12-24mm glass to hold up at 24MP even if the image circle was large enough to allow that (which it obviously would not be).  But at a pure crop, using only the center of the image circle at say 12MP, I wouldn’t think it’d be any different.

    Shoe Goo will work (that’s a goop) but the hard part is getting it bonded tight while it sets.

    You can use almost any kind of paint and the sprayers are like $9 at Home Depot.

    Use various kinds of lace to make patterns.
