Tim AngeliMemberGreat photos Eric, thanks for sharing those.
Tim AngeliMemberBest dry fly, stillwater line I have ever used!
x2.
Tim AngeliMemberNice shot Eric. Looking forward to more from the trip. Which model helios is that?
Tim AngeliMemberI love those CDC emergers Mike.
Tim AngeliMemberGreat stuff Stu!
Tim AngeliMemberYou don’t want a sharkskin if you do any amount of streamer fishing either, it cuts the heck out of your hands.
Have you tried the SA Mastery Textured, Colin? All the advantages of Sharkskin (outstanding floatation, low resistance, shoots great, etc.), but completely non-abrasive. Best line on the market, in my opinion.
Tim AngeliMemberLooking great.
Tim AngeliMemberNice work on the boat Travis, and great fish!
Tim AngeliMemberThanks guys, glad you enjoyed it. To answer some of the questions:
These fish were actually from two different rivers…we hiked up and over a saddle to a second river halfway through the trip. However, the first 4 fish were all from the same river and were amazingly diverse in their spot and coloration patterns.
The NZ hut system is a very cool system. There are over 950 huts all across the country, and the hut I posted a photo of isn’t even one of the nice ones…the first night we had a water tank and gas stoves. I wasn’t aware that there were huts along the AT, but I think in general, a similar system would struggle to work as well in the states. Imagine a public hut on the Lamar or Slough Creek in Yellowstone…I expect it would get far too much use to operate on an effective first-come first-serve basis.
The Riverworks reel isn’t mine, and I didn’t personally fish with it, but I was impressed overall. Quality appears to be good and the drag performed well. I’d like to see it in battle with a couple of big turbo-charged rainbows before I give any final opinions on it, but overall I was impressed with it.
Tim AngeliMemberWelcome Mike. Looking forward to seeing some of your flies here. I’ve been on a bit of an emerger vibe this year, so I’m keen to see what you come up with.
Tim AngeliMemberCongrats on the Fly Fish Journal cover too, Matt!
Tim AngeliMemberSite looks great Matt.
Tim AngeliMember+1 for the mastery textured. Best line I’ve ever fished, by far.
Tim AngeliMemberTop notch Cor, as usual!
Tim AngeliMember😮 WOW! Hell of a fish. Congrats!
Tim AngeliMemberWish you would have been there Stu.
Tim AngeliMemberJohn, a Dad’s Favorite is a mayfly imitation. I don’t have any detailed photos of the fly, but you can see it in a few of these shots:

You can find detailed photos and step-by-step tying instructions here:

Tim AngeliMemberCheers guys. I’m still reliving it to keep me sane in the office.
Pretty small fly too?
It was a Dad’s Favorite, about a 12, maybe a 14. Took it on the first cast. 🙂
Tim AngeliMemberWorms work in New Zealand too?! Way to get back to your Michigan roots.
Hahaha, actually Tim, it was honestly on a dry. 10.25lbs of NZ backcountry rainbow…rising right up the guts of the pool. Not to say that I don’t have a fairly impressive collection of worms…

Tim AngeliMemberDid you catch any big ones
Nah mate, nothing over 10.5…
