MemberLawrence, that penny stove is very cool. I think I’ll try making one just for the fun of it.

MemberBrian – I just looked at your links to trip reports in RMNP.

MemberThanks for the great info guys! I think I have a bite on the topic now. Went to Boarders and came home with a couple books and the current Backpacker mag w/ editors choice awards (thanks for that recommendation Foutch). I like the “ultralight” philosophy. Though equipment may cost a bit more it looks economical in the long run rather than buying heavier stuff then repurchasing after getting disgusted. I’m jazzed about the idea of only having 20 or so lbs.
– M Wood – great idea on the Ozark Highland Trail. This morning I happen to talk to two friends about doing just that later this month as a warm up.
Couple more questions…
– Steve K – is your popcan stove & fuel lighter than a regulator stove w/ fuel cannister?
– Anyone have advice on light weight felt bottom wading shoes/sandals? What about gluing felt on a pair of light weight hiking shoes?rich miller

MemberBrian – what a great rundown! Sounds like Lamson has made a line of really tough, reliable reels with that notorious smoothe drag. I do love my Velocity. It’s great to hear it (and other models) hold up to the demands of fishing 100 days/yr.
The line slipping the spool on the ULA is a bother. What a way to lose a fish! I’ll look over the ULA closely, but maybe sticking with a Velocity is the way to go.
Thanks!

MemberThanks for the input, all.
I’m the guy who started all this when I was perplexed with my personal experience wanting to try out one of those new Scott sticks (the S4) and asked for some feed back. I had no idea there would be so much interest.
James, I really appreciate your weighing in on the matter. I value hearing your perspective which shows genuine interest in your customers. I understand the customer issues that supply chain/production challenges can produce. My day job is to consult with companies on such matters and manage projects to implement software and associated business process improvements. If it was easy, everybody would have world class customer service AND world class products. But it is not easy and you’ve earned a chance for a portion of my fly fishing wallet. I’ll contact you about how to get my hands on an S4 to give it a try.
Thanks,
Richrich miller
MemberI’m a dealer too _ These sort of posts keep cropping up re Scott. I think they have had some issues in the past, notably repairs, but there was new chairman capital injection and Im told one of the key issues to be resolved was repair times.
The link may have been down earlier but worked for me tonight _ website looks different so I reckon they may have had an update which screwed the links
Definately tough times in the fly fishing world but Scott keeps boxing on becuase of the faithful.
We have had some repairs done recently better times than in previous years, our rep just across the border remains in the game.
Which S4 do you want to try?
Steve, I’m wanting to try a 5wt 8’6″ & 9′. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Richrich miller
