MemberSeth,
can’t help you with info on MD but if you want to know some info on PA streams and the hatches, here is a decent website with a select few streams around the state.

Memberseafood,
great to hear of some other pennsylvanians getting out and hitting the streams. could you please post your pictures again? for some reason, i’m not seeing them on the post anymore. i live in erie, pa. this has been a long tough couple of months for fishing up here, but, that hasn’t prevented me from giving it the old college try! we still have some steelies around the tribs! here’s one i caught this past weekend. looking forward to fishing some upcoming hatches as this winter weather gives way to spring. keep us posted on your fishing!
tight lines! paul

MemberMike,
Here’s a pattern you might want to check out from Rivers Outdoor Adventures and Old Lehigh Outfitters in Pennsylvania. It can be found at the following website:

Here’s a pic (btw it’s not tied by me).

My 81 yr old father still showing me how it’s done on the Lake Erie Tribs for Steelies

One of my first catches for my first Fall Steelhead run

Couple of friends braving the inclement weather on the Lake Erie Tribs

First real photo taken of me with a Steelhead by a friend

The same friend getting some artistic pictures

MemberTim,
I don’t have any experience with sinking lines, but, my local fly shop set me up with the Rio Outbound line for my 8wt to fish for bass. It is absolutely fantastic! As a beginner it definitely assisted me with my casting distance and made the bass fishing a lot more enjoyable because I didn’t have to work too hard (this is all relative since I’m a beginner) to shoot line. Now, I have the floating line, but, they make it in different levels of sink rates and now have come out with an interesting new version called their T-14 Outbound line which you can cut the head to different lengths, which they give you some guidelines, to get the grain tip that you are looking for. It has a sink rate of 9 inches per second. I don’t imagine this line will work real well for your 5wt, but it is definitely a good choice in my opinion for your 8wt. Check it out:

Good luck and let us know how you make out and if you do go with the product I’d like to know how it works and what your thoughts are on it. Tight Lines!

MemberHans,
Well, i didn’t get a fly vise, but rather, I got something even better! My wife ended up getting me an Orvis T3 10′ 7wt fly rod that will be my dedicated steelhead rod on the Lake Erie Tributaries! Great rod and even a better wife!
tight lines,
paul
