    Zach,

Thanks for posting this clarification for everyone.

I am no expert on this (but I do eat a lot of sushi), anyone who knows the real answer please feel free to correct me.

I have been to two restaurants in the past month that have had the special of the day as “New Zealand Trout”, one restaurant called it “New Zealand Pink Trout”.

You guys are awesome, thanks for the detailed replies.  All my reading and practice must be paying off because I was actually able to understand about half of the information mentioned above, ha.  Seriously, these are great notes to print out and read and research.  Also, I am going to borrow a macro/lighting setup and practice practice practice some more.  I am also starting to realize the importance of mm and white balance.

Yuhina, I enjoy all your pictures and posts.  You have never come across as showy, no worries.  I like your style.  In fact, just like Brett, I have been keeping an eye out on my wall for a future piece, some good talent here. BTW, that was a parrot on my previous post you asked about (February arts/crafts post).

    Rick,

That is a very nice box!  How cool of your wife to make that for you.  Also, wow, your daughter could get hurt lifting that big boy of fur.  I think it looks very practical and your right that it is about the size of a large Cliff’s box.

Out of curiosity 1)explain the use of the mesh on the bottom half of each side; do you put your hook into the mesh? 2)Is the foam insert grooved or did you “cut” linear lines in it like a Cliff’s box for your hook points? 3)Is that a Pogo stick in the background?

Addendum: on closer inspection, those are obviously crutches!

BTW Zach, for the shoalies on the Hooch, they start at the place I showed you before (where I saw tons of spawning carp) and then downstream from there.  According to my fishing log they were out in early-mid June after the DH ended and the water became marginal.  I caught two on a rainbow wooly bugger and one on a popper. Josh’s setup also sounds good.  I know of a group of guys who are really hard core into fishing non-trout on the river, but they are a quiet bunch.  Here’s a quote from Georgia Wildlife, “WRD initiated a project in 2003 to restore the shoal bass population downstream of Morgan Falls Dam.  Shoal bass are native to the Chattahoochee and the extensive shoal habitat downstream of Morgan Falls Dam likely sustained a healthy population prior to construction of Buford Dam in 1958.  A small population of shoal bass still exists in this section.  A five-year shoal bass fingerling-stocking program began in 2003.  Approximately 176,450 shoal bass fingerlings have been stocked over the past four years.”

Also, late May was when the carp were spawning and in sight-casting distance.  Hhhmmm?

Zach, a pontoon would be safe and reliable anywhere in the DH section upstream from 41 bridge because there are takeout points if you get in trouble with current.

Zach, on the Hooch, downstream from 41 bridge near the intersection of I285/S.Cobb by the train tracks = Shoal bass heaven in spring.

I just found a good deal on http://www.williamjoseph.net/ Dry-Namic Waders due to a non-standard sizing closeout sale (small and xxl). They usually sell for about 280 and I found them for 170. I read multiple positive reviews online. Has anybody used or owned a product from this company?

Jay, IMHO that is a fantastic deal on the William Joseph waders (depending on your weight/body size).  I love WJ clothing and gear and they make great products, I have posted other reviews on WJ here also.  The key is that XXL size – I would call them today and tell them your size; if they think that would be a good fit, grab them quickly. However, make sure they will not be too big and that WJ will accept a return if so.  Also, ask if they would be willing to accept less money for an instant sale over the phone.

Marco and Zach, you have sparked my interest to say the least!  Thanks for the great pictures.  By the way, I was unable to find out what the name Xingu means (sounds Chinese to me; couldn’t find anything on Wiki).  Marco, do you know the origins of the name?  Zach, nice article on Brazil and the Zingu; I had read it before but now I took a closer look.

By the way, I had to look this up on the map; always something new to learn.

Labrati, you might have bursitis and it is relatively easy to treat. However, sounds like you already have some doctors in the house who are stumped.  PM me for advice if needed (disclaimer, I am a physician).

BTW, Jason Borger (a previous Podcast guest speaker on this site and a member) has a particular interest in this topic.  He works with the University of Montana sports medicine doctors and Tim McCue and others; they have put together a great clinic for casting related injuries.  However, you probably don’t need to go to that extreme and fly there and register; the cost is high.  But they offer some solid advice and you can probably contact them to see if they have any free information.  Try his main contact http://www.jasonborger.com/ or see the attached links for a start http://www.flycastinginstitute.com/clinics.html http://www.umt.edu/urelations/rview/summer06/fishing.htm or http://www.billingsgazette.com/testdex.php?id=2&display=rednews/2004/02/29/build/sports/50-flyfish-doc.inc.  You can also contact a local Physical Medicine Rehab doctor or an Orthopedic doctor for a thorough exam.  Best advice I can give is to call ahead and see if they have either a)an interest in fly fishing personally, or b)have specifically treated fly fishing related injuries.  Lefty Kreh’s book LEFTY KREH ON FLY CASTING has some good advice on casting techniques for avoiding injury.

I have been collecting research for an article on this topic that I intend to write in the future. The main injuries related to fly fishing are usually shoulders, hips, knees in that orders.  If your shoulder is hurting it is probably a symptom of extended reaching during your cast.  Try and keep your elbow in toward your body and that will help a great deal (the old book between your arm/body trick that was commonly taught in the old days).  Also, a series of exercises with stretching are always good. Just FYI, Tylenol will only help dull the pain but does not treat inflammation.  Asprin/Motrin/Aleve/Ibuprofen and Cox-II inhibiters are anti-inflammatory medicines that treat both pain and inflammation (take in moderation and as directed).

Dusty, no worries, I was there today.  I am going fishing with Shannon and the guys this spring.  BTW, they had a killer sale today on Whitting dry fly capes ;D.  Good luck in your new job.

Getting to Australia isn’t cheap.  Adding the cost of a fly fishing charter would have required an equity line of credit  :'(.  However, I am saving/planning a three week trip to Australia for fly fishing in the next 3-4 years.  I can’t wait to fish and shoot pictures with you guys.
