I’d love to see someone make a streamer rod with ceramic guides instead of those outdated wire guides…. Until then I’ll keep building my own.

Wouldn’t even remotely consider it for any application. It’s not a jet and it’s not a prop. The only advantage I see is it’s safe to swim around, if your into that sort of thing.

Thanks Chad, those are from a Tokina 16-28 2.8. Great little lens but it can be a glare monster and can’t accept filters. That said it’s not $1600 that canon wants for the red ring either…
Here’s a few from last week with that lens that I thought turned out well.

    Cool thread.

Like everyone else has already stated that is an awesome shot Jay. I’d love to see or know more about your sharpening technique in post.

I disagree with alot of what he’s saying outside the DF comments. Today’s cameras are nothing short of amazing considering where we were just a few years ago. Damn, I remember digital cameras that took floppy drives. Now I can take images in darkened rooms with no flash, and get decent results.

My biggest gripe is the rising cost of OEM lenses and accessories. They have gotten ridiculous! The silver lining is that some of the third party manufactures have really stepped up their game. Tokina, Tamron, and Sigma, all have produced some really sweet lenses lately. My latest favorite is the new Tamron 70-200 2.8 VC. At a whopping $1000 less than the Canon L , minus tank like construction, and a little more vignette wide open, it’s pretty much it’s equal.

It’s quickly becoming my all-time favorite lens.

    Look, no flash!

    in reply to: Tweeties #76342

Yea they were in a good mood and letting me get close so I put the flash on. I just got a 7D to play with and was out testing it when these guys showed up. Shortly after this a Coopers Hawk showed up and the party was over.

Nice Brett. The little birds are so much fun to shoot and so hard to get right.I had some waxwings stop by while I was out playing around.

Why bother typing out a response when you can just hit a button. Laziness wins every time. What kills me is all the likes when people from outa town come to your home rivers and whore it out to the world. You like this now, really?

Don’t you have crocs where you live? 🙂

IF you’re agile enough I’d go with a fishing SUP before the Outcast. SUP’s aren’t for everyone and they do require good balance and some agility to stand and fish from all day. When paired with a nice carbon SUP paddle, a cooler to sit down every once and a while, they fish and cover water amazingly well. The best part is the ability to comfortably sight fish from an elevated platform in places that have never been sight fished like that before…. Getting one that is designed for fishing and stability is paramount if your legs are questionable.

    Outstanding.

Looks like a right place right time sort of incident. I found flat full of Catfish one time while Carping. Had a blast catching cats on the fly.

David, I didn’t do any fishing there though I’ve heard it’s a good place to fish. We just dove the springs. There are quite a few Bass and panfish, and even a few Alligators in there.

    Here’s a link.

Just a Snorkel and fins. We live in the water whenever we go to Fl. I Took my mom last year after she beat Cancer.

Since the Supreme was mentioned here I’ll throw in my .02. Where Jets are concerned the trick is getting the lower unit completely out, or at least mostly out of the water, even at idle. That said, you also have to make sure your hull is feeding it good clean water. The rockered and jet tunneled hulls on the Supreme make for a boat that will idle almost as shallow as it will run wide open. the specs on mine are about 4 to 5″ at idle, and about 3″ wide open. That IMO is what separates a “jet” boat from a boat with a jet.
You can see what I’m talking about here in the video I did at Cypress Springs. My mother and one of my daughters were still in the boat when I videoed this. Skip to 3.40 to see the boat from underwater.

Mine is a 2007 that I bought still warm from the mold. I’ve put it through all kinds of hell in all kinds of places. Most all the rivers and lakes within a 3 hour drive of my house. The FL Keys, The Gulf of Mexico, The Atlantic, crossed the St. Andrews Jetties, Panama Beach (very spooky). The older it gets the more hell I give it. Look at the bottom in the video. It’s in very, very, good shape still despite the Musky rivers up here that are hell on boats. Line-X only goes so far and really only protects the gel coat. You hit it hard enough and you’re gonna gouge the glass. I’ve watched as the bottom flexes and helps absorb the impact when I run it over logs on purpose. I like that property of fiberglass.

All that said, its not a whitewater boat and I wouldn’t ever try to run real class 2 or above. I’ll leave that for the rock hopper boats and folks with more money then me. One wrong move or malfunction and you, your boat and outboard, and all your gear, are lost. No thanks. And yea you can stand on the bow with no stability problem… It’s 60″X48″. 🙂

Tim I thought the same thing until the canon rebate lowered the printer to the $100 range. I also realized that not having a printer is print prohibitive because I wasn’t ever sending anything to the lab. I don’t know which is cheaper, but I really like having control over the print and the media it’s on.

in reply to: Canon Pro 100 Printer #76001

Yep. Looks good on the monitor doesn’t = looks good in print. And when your looking at the cost of a 13X19 you really start to look hard at every detail before pushing the print button. So much to learn so little time…

Been playing with all the different Canon Papers. Big time fun!

I read this in the New York Times last week and thought it kinda fits into this discussion. It’s worth a few mins to read it none the less.

in reply to: The Problem with Facebook #75991

Just FYI, I logged in with Facebook. 🙂

I agree that the discussion is fading on the boards. Mine has taken a hit as well. The problem isn’t just FB IMO. There are several other issues for the TN midstate area. We’ve had some major shifts in weather the last 5 years. The COE has destroyed one of the greatest Trout Fisheries in the south, and is working on another…. A large scale kayak rental operation has destroyed the Caney Fork (once mid Tn’s best Tailwater)for fishing in the summer. Floods and heat waves knocked the Hybrid populations down pretty bad in a few mid state lakes. Overcrowding in lakes make it impossible to fish in the summer due to wake boarding and skiing.

The Plastic navy (proud member) are now invading every nook and cranny once protected from the masses. There seems to be a new interest in all kinds of fishing and large crowds have caused smart fishermen to keep their mouths shut about a hot bite. Take the Musky craze that’s going on now. Once upon a time there is a river here in TN that you would NEVER see another boat on, and if you did they were perch fishing. Now that river and area are being named almost daily all across the www. The result is heavily pressured fish that are already a giant pain in the ass to get to bite, and a sucky place to spend hard earned money to “get away” and enjoy some fishing.
Maybe the economy is also partly to blame as people are staying closer to home now.

Then,,, there is the cool factor. It’s no longer cool to ask what’s your favorite 5wt or any other question considered to be too rookie. The ridicule of people new to the sport has hurt the discussion more then anything IMO. Even if it is all in good fun.

“FWIW, the quality of these things cost money in six figures only ten – twelve years ago..
Good times we livi in! ”

Indeed! I’ve been learning quite a bit about the printing process the last few weeks. Learning that stuff that doesn’t stand out on the screen sure does in print. Blown highlights, clipped blacks, and little details that need to be Photoshopped out, like sticks in a waterfall. I now keep the highlight/shadow alerts on in LR and on camera.
Also, it isn’t best to use wireless to print… Had two 8.5X 11’s get scrapped due to com loss. Ouch! Glad it wasn’t a 13X19. Overall I’m still amazed that for $120 plus some paper I can print images like what I’m printing.

I’ve also learned to stay away from the big office stores for paper. Office depot has Canon glossy II 20 sheet for $18.99. Amazon has the same paper for $4.99!! Ink isn’t bad either. Besides, ink is what keeps printer companies making advancements in the tech, and lowering the cost of ownership. I’m pleased as punch with this purchase.
