Sorry not picking on him either, but this is a great board, and any one who spends a few minutes on it might see that, understand what we are about and post an intro to a video.

My comment was made more out of frustration than anything else.

Intro, pic or 2 and a fishing method… then post your link, embed your vid and have fun…

You don’t have to do that, just at least give us a little bit about the fly, and stuff like what it does and where to do… and why it is special…

Yeh, thanks Neal, but he recommended cutting point hooks…

So last year we had them break, not the hook, but the point breaks off on that hard mouth, admittedly, the average fish is 80 to 90 and the hooks broke on the bigger fish, over 120…

So Dean doesn’t want to use them for the deep water hooks, I am going to pres him to use them on the flats hooks.

I am tying the majority of my flies on cutting points, but agree with Dean about the deep water hooks.

Last year I had a point on a Mustard 68SZ, a spear point, roll on a 150+ fish, had it on for 7 minutes and the hook never penetrated… probably didn’t hit it hard enough… I did leave bits on my fighting glove in the line, still there, embedded for life…

But the fish I did boat was on a cutting point…

I don’t know, I am tying mine on cutting points… I’ll give you the skinny when we get back…

Neal, isn’t there someone at the Fish Hawk who seriously respected in the tarpon community??

We’re going to mail a few people and see what comes back.

OK, so it’s still like an open ended question, but we are getting there.

No go with the TMC 600sp, we had 3 of them break on our last tour. Not the hook, you need 2 tractors to do that, but the cutting point breaking off when they tried to penetrate that hard mouth.

We like the Aki, but there’s that cutting blade again, we’re gonna test them this week, perspex seems to be the thing to pull it on.

Got samples of the other hooks mentioned. I think the SC15 is the business for the bunny’s and sempa’s, like the SC17 for the swimming shrimps and small crabs.

    So the next questions…

Both Bill Bishop’s, High Rollers, and Donald Larmouth & Rob Fordyce’s, Tarpon on Fly, say that the hook should be sharpened by creating a triangular shaped point, with three cutting edges.
    What do you guys think??

The next hair dresser that come into the shop to buy hackles will be escorted to the curb…

We are actually charging 2 prices for them, regular customers and then the “hair dress”price…

Our hackles are for fly tying!!!

Zack, any chance you can mail me that article, we don’t get that mag here in Africa!!!!

As it turns out, I found a few new Paintshop Pro x4s for around twenty bucks – no cpc code on the box (not sure what that means) – so I figured I’d give the program a shot.

It does have a noise reducer, and many folks seem to like it. Eventually I hope to move up to Lightroom.

    OH

And I think what you bought here is a media disk with the software trial, you’re probably going to have to pay them for the license code in like 30 days…

Finally, any thoughts on Paintshop Pro?

I use GIMP from time to time, for one functiono only and only because I had PS4 before, I need it to un-stack images save in PS4 (if you’ve never worked in PS4, you won’t need it)… everything else I do in Elements, there after.

I downloaded the Paintshop Pro trial and tested it first, what a heap of shit… sorry for those guys using it, my advice, switch to Elements.

BTW, I tested about 5 solutions, all in the $100 range, some were OK, but after PS4, Elements is as close to where you want to go, as possible.

Any other questions on the cheaper options?? I have been through most of them…

Yeh… Elements is the way to go.

I switched down from full CS4 to Elements 9 and cannot see the difference in the end result. (catastrophic hard drive failure… had to repurchase the product)

Somethings are easier and other harder, but almost as good, and I actually find a lot of the Elements functions to be easier to use..

There is one thing I miss… PS4 has a function that allows you to select a section of a photo and change the exposure in the RAW format, then select another area and do the same, so you can correct the exposure of the entire image, bit by bit… Elements cant do that…

If you told me that money was no option, CS4 or Lightroom… but Elements is a great compromise.
