MemberHello Zach
I think the most dangerous element in fly tying is spending too much time on my own in the basement. The chemicals I use don´t worry me, but the fact that i wake up at night thinking about a new and better trailing chuck does scare me.
Besides the dangers of spending too much time locked down in the darkness, i think ergonomic issues are the most harmful. I have invested in good lights and a back saver chair(http://www.zzmedical.com/zencart/hag-capisco-ergonomic-chair-p-509.html

MemberHi Zack
I have used the Jet boil burner with a aluminium coffemug/press and it works ok, but the problem with all the metal cups is that they get uncomfortably warm for handling. And it often boils over and then it is very easy to get burned when trying to turn of the gas, because the regulator is hard to reach.
I have been most happy with a classic Bodum French press

Memberi lost my temper once, never found it again.
Last sunday i lost a winston LT of my back pack and did not realise it until monday night. Went looking for it tuesday and did not find it. Then on wednesday a fellow fly fisherman called and told me he found it. Thats luck.
Also lost a ford van at the take out at 3mile on The Big Horn. Found it on the next take out. A guide had shuffled the wrong van.Found:
A fully loaded fishing vest on the Missouri, a fly rod on the Beaverhead and a all found their way back to the owners. Also found a few fly boxes on my local waters in Norway but have never found the owners.knut ruud
MemberShane,
Most of my fishing is Hike-In and i use my patagonia wading shoes for both hiking and fishing. For me that works perfect, except in the early season because the shoes gets wet on the hike in and that gets very cold. you dont want to roam about in the Norwegian woods with wet sock in May. The wadins shoes worked great on long hikes in NZ, also on multi day hikes with backpacks. So unless its cold were you fish using the rubber soled shoes works great.Knut

MemberJoel,
nice pictures. The last shot looks like a real challenge to fish and wade 😉
I was fortunate to spend 4 weeks on the south island with my wife in December/January and it is truly a very special place. The down side was coming back home to -14F and 4 weeks of snow fall. Cant wait to get back. Thanks for posting the pictures, those spring creeks haunt my dreams every night.Knut

MemberI dont know of any other rods currently available than the scott g2 and f series. The hardy series are discontinued. There are a few makers like David Norwick that offer unsanded finish, but i guess from the custom makers you can get what ever you desire.

MemberThat was a very fine work station. good luck on finding a house with a man room. We have just bought a old house and i am making a fly fishing chamber in the basement were i can hide during winter.
