Just thought I’d add that I wish I could have afforded a D300 because I think it is a pretty big jump from the D200… those 51 AF points and the Active-D Lighting really make me drool.

    Hey Matt-

I upgraded from my D70 to a D200 a few months ago… and wow what a difference.  The improved AF and frame rate are worth it alone.  Not to mention the better viewfinder, lcd screen, build quality, custimization options, etc.

I still shoot the D70 as back-up and I am amazed at the difference between the two.  If you can afford a D300 (I couldn’t) go for it, but I really don’t think you’d be dissapointed either way.

PS I was shooting at a volleyball game indoors the other night, and was really impressed with how decent ISO 1600 was- I wouldn’t have even considered that on my D70.

The focal length might be a little short for bug work, but I am drooling over the new 60mm f2.0 from Tamron… great reviews so far.

Don’t think you could go wrong with the Nikon 105mm f2.8 VR… the VR could get you some shots you might otherwise miss if a tripod isnt handy

I cheated a little on the bear… she was at the Grizzly & Wolf Discovery Center in West Yellowstone… very cool way to see bears up close… that was taken w/ my Sigma 100-300mm f4 at probably 30 feet or so.

    Here’s one of the males:

The cutt was from Slough Creek… what an amazing place.

    Hi Josh, nice shots.

I love the waist level 120’s though it’s been a long time since I had one.

Do you ever take yours out fishing ?

I bet the 55 is a great lens for shooting streams on the square..

There is something really special about the view through a waistlevel finder once you get used to the whole backwards thing.  I haven’t had the guts to take it on the stream yet- the 55mm lens brings a premium (relatively speaking) and the whole camera is just so gorgeous I’d hate to send it for a swim.  Charles Linday’s entire book Upstream was shot through a TLR (a Rolleiflex i think) and I love the results, so I will give it a shot here before too long…. the 55 would be a perfect focal length!

Dang that’s a good price… D70 is my primary camera… either I’m using a dinosaur or its a great bargain  😉  Might just pick up a second body at that price

BTW- I know the answer to the above question… its definitely a dinosaur… drooling for a D90… but cant really complain about the D70- still beats any compact out there

My D70 pretty consistently overexposes by 2/3 to 1 stop… I have correction pretty much always dialed in.
