I think that’s the first time I’ve ever heard Sage rods being singled out as prone to breakage. Any break I’ve ever seen was due to operator error (clousered, loose ferrule, stepped on, candy caned, etc.).
I’m told one of the two shops in the Keys stopped carrying Scott rods because tarpon kept blowing them up, but that’s one of the few times I’ve ever heard any particular brand singled out. Then again, everyone seems to think that if you’re not breaking rods every once in a while, you’re not pulling hard enough. Go figure.
Either way, I doubt that the average Z-Axis/ZXL user is ever going to have problems with breakage that could be attributed to poor design.
The lodge I work for provides Sage rods for client use. Hence the 9 of 10. That being said, outside of work, I still see far more Sage rods than any other brand.
sage rods cast great but there is one reason and one reason only I will never buy a sage rod (even with pro deals) I have seen more sages break on fish than any other make of rod.
I absolutely see more Sage rods break than any other brand. But then again, nine of ten fishermen with me are using Sage rods.
Think that might have something to do with it?
Clark – I can’t believe you haven’t had a kingfish blow up a rod yet.
Haven’t had the chance to post-process anything, so some of these are not leveled correctly or otherwise in need of some love.
I have some Pat Ford style jump shots that turned out a lot better than last year’s. I’ll post them after I’ve gotten them uploaded somewhere.

I browsed through your website, and you’ve got some excellent photos. I’ve only ever read two or three issues of Fly Life, and oddly enough, one of them was an issue with your photo on the cover (winter 2001).
This may be the type of thing that can really put a hurt on print media. If it’s operated like Fly Fish America (free) I’d guess advertisers alone could support a magazine with quality content – there are no print and distribution costs.
Now if I can store issues on my hard drive in pdf format (not some proprietary reader) for a small fee and index them for search, it would make it incredibly easy to find that random article I’m looking for that would have otherwise been lost in a pile of magazines.
Advertisers should love this with the ability to link directly to their websites and even specific products.

Morsie – Glad to see you’ve joined the board. Excellent photos as usual.
I’m really having to dig deep into the photo archives to keep the thread going. Unfortunately these are all scans from a P&S film camera. They look horrible, but they’re all I’ve got.
I’m sure Tim could budget those, but we’re going sans helicopters.

Side note: Pink polarized sunglasses from a gas station are not equivalent to Maui Jim rose lenses. Trust me.
