David AndersonMemberHi,
Morsie just sent me a link to this amazing site that’s about fishing and photography, my two favorite things.
So I thought I would introduce myself before wading through the posts.I grew up in Champaign Illinois, I started fly fishing for Bass and Bluegill around 1974 0r 75.
In 1984 I moved to Sydney Australia because of a women ( long story :-X ) and stayed on.For the last twenty yearsd I’ve been working as a freelance photographer in the music and entertainment industry and have shot for most Australian magazines and several in Europe and the US.
I also shoot a lot of album covers and more and more lately advertising work.
I’m married with two sons 2 and 9, hate dogs and drive a Volvo. To keep sain I take my cameras on fishing trips and shoot sdtories for Flylife and now FlyAngler, with a lot of coaching from my friend Morsie I also now write a bit as well.
I use a pair of Canon 1DS II’s and a bunch of Canon lenses, and still have a heap of film cameras that are gathering dust in the shed.
My bent in fishing is little rods on small streams for trout and more and more saltwater as well in the last two years.
I look forward to seeing everyones photos.
David.

MemberHey David,
I browsed through your website, and you’ve got some excellent photos. I’ve only ever read two or three issues of Fly Life, and oddly enough, one of them was an issue with your photo on the cover (winter 2001).

The Itinerant AnglerI am starting to worry whether I need to be checking my OWN credentials at the door around here.

David AndersonMemberIt’s an Aussie/Kiwi invasion. Nice stuff guys.
Is the picture of the bass from a trip this way or is that something you guys have down there? **Edit: oops, I guess I missed your second sentence**
I see that gurglers have migrated down there too. One of my favorite topwater flies.
That’s an Australian Bass, they remind me of smallmouth except they can be a little more moody.
They’re a great target on fly and love poppers, one of my favorite late summer past times is fishing for them in small streams with a 3wt. rod.
That one in the picture is from a very remote stretch of North coast river that we rafted for 4 days to get to – it’s a big fish for a wild river at 48 cm, if it doen’t look big in the photo it’s because the guy holding it ( Gordon Low ) is a 6’5 beast.)
(Gordon caught a bigger one at 52cm later that day.)*I’ll post a some shots from the trip soon..
The Gurgler is popular here now – that shot is from a trip to Weipa.
Morsie will corect me if I’m wrong but I think he first used them down here for saltwater fish.
They sure work well, easy to cast and unlike crease flys easy to tie..www.dsaphoto.com

Welcome to you and we’re pleased to have you. The Aussie invasion is well underway, and we were all still picking our jaws up off the floor from Simon and Morsie’s contributions.
Zach
Thanks Zach, I don’t think you need to worry about your credentials, the photos on the front page and throughout the board are awesome..
I’m still prowling trough it all – a lot of great shots…

MemberDavid,
How can you call yourself an Austrailian entertainment photographer and not have one shot of the Wiggles in your portfolio? ::)
You have a great site. I really like that all of the images in your personal gallery are fishing related.
