Long time no see Zach, those Grayling are fast strikers. I have high sticked these mountains here in TN for over two decades now and I don’t use any indicators on Tailwaters either. I reckon I would do OK in England.

Just make sure you are looking at Danielsson, I think they are still called LW. Loop is no longer affiliated with Danielsson and their reel is called CLW. Loop is made overseas, Danielsson still made in Sweden.

I’m flying in to Turku in the southwest of Finland. I’m planning on fishing some water around the north of town and some about an hour north with car. It would be just south and southeast of the town of Tampere.

Maybe chutes aren’t the correct word to use. It’s more like a narrow channel of water which moves very fast. I guess it’s similar to side channels in a river delta, the only difference here is that it’s waterways between freshwater lakes. I can’t wait to get over there.
oh! Okay, It’s going to be interesting when I get over there. The area of Finland I’m going to has this very short but swift rapids almost like chutes between the lakes, (the whole area is dotted with thousands of lakes) so you buy a permit for so many hours to fish these fast moving rapids. It looks like a lot of these rapids have a quota on how many fisherman can fish at a given time.
Thanks for your reply, yeah I think you are right, they don’t seem to have a reputation for being very selective. I think my standard U.S. trout patterns would work. I hear grayling take very softly on the fly though, is that correct?
Yes, although I became a U.S. citizen in 2003. Came to Tennessee in 1994 and spent three seasons in the hills in order to catch a few. Can’t wait for my first fishing trip to Finland this summer.
I have repeatedly resoled my boots with a standard felt sole kit whichyou can buy for around 15 dollars. First you have to clean the felt and let it dry. Sand it down to make it rough for the adhesive to take. Go to Wal Mart and buy welder’s adhesive for about 3 bucks. It hold a lot better than anything else and cost a fourth of the rip off Aqua seal which is not worth anything.
Apply welders adhesive and let it sit for about 20 min. Reapply another coat and then use duct tape to firmly attach the sole to the boot. Let this sit for 24 hours. You know have perfectly fine boots again for about $20 bucks and some sweat equity.

Whadya now! Here’s the hillbilly swede! Zach! I was wondering what happened to you. Now I know, you went down to ATL and I hope that bar exam goes well. As for me I’m still trying not to sound like Forrest Gump but no sucess ;D
Fishing has been slow in the heat. I did well up until July. August so far has not been so good and mainly because of me being lazy and staying home. Change is on the way. I have found an eager beginning Fly Fisherman from Maryville who is willing to tag along on my outings. He is already catching fish like there’s no tomorrow. I had to show him some of the tricks of the trade up in these hills and now he is good to go.
I have been fooling around with tackle tinkering business lately. I have rebuilt an old South Bend glass rod which I am going to fish this weekend. I cut it from 8ft down to 7ft and put on new guides and a new grip with a modern graphite reel seat. It will be interesting to see if it’ll throw anything at all. Take care and let’s hope we can do the Road Prong some time in the future again.
