If that’s the Murray Cod, I’ve read a large writeup on them in National Geographic magazine a while back, or perhaps on its website. Â It listed the candidates for biggest freshwater fish species, and if I recall there were as follows:
– Taimen (Asia)
– Murray Cod (Australia)
– Alligator Gar (North America)
– Sturgeon (Russia)
– Mekong Catfish (SE Asia)
All are known to get over 200#, but I think the Mekong Catfish is sort of the de facto assumed winner. Â Naturally, none of these species are swimming at their maximum sizes right now due to overfishing.
