MemberJust make sure they are totally dead………

You don’t need to wear camo to sneak up on road kill. 🙂
Interesting link Zach.

MemberNice fish. That on Superior? (Nevermind read it in the original post). Looks like some good action. We get some schoolie steelhead while trolling for walleye in the eastern basin but the water depth is pretty prohibitive this time of year.

MemberI dont mind helping people out on streams or pointing them in the general direction, however I think the habit of spoon feeding people information is

MemberYou can do a single spey out of a boat. Also Skagit rods are great at overhand casting.

If youre into those shooting heads and dont like all the work you may want to put one on a two hander or a very stiff switch. Skagit rods cast those heads very nicely and it is a lot easier to match grains to the rod you are fishing.chad skutle
MemberI have an 8wt Scott V2. Thing is money.
Other than that if you look for something else I would suggest something in a moderate action, or you could even go up to a 10wt (Not unheard of for casting bigger bugs).

MemberNice report and photos. Looks like you smacked the piggies around a bit.

MemberUnless you are lucky you really dont want a dog who is not a trained pointer to hunt grouse. If you have a dog bumping birds it may do it when the birds are in range and it may do it when they are out of range.
My advice…. Hock one of your higher end Sage rods and buy a good bird dog(English Setter because thats what gentlemen hunt with). Get the pup into birds early and make sure it keeps a close range while hunting thick cover and a broader(but reasonable) range for if you decide to bang pheasants and such. Make sure you get to see the dogs parents work, and if possible take someone who knows something about dogs with you.
The other alternative is to take your pup to a trainer and see if there is anything at all you can do with her. However the gun shy thing is probably insurmountable, though I have heard of some who say it isnt, but that could be like anything else, just a bunch of BS.
Im telling you that taking an untrained dog through grouse country is a very painful way to take a walk i the woods.

MemberInteresting article Brett. I noticed a lot of Ohio shops listed on that siteyou sent me to. Are you from around these parts?

MemberNice article. I am a big fan of switch rods. Where I am at there is two handed water, but it is limited and often not necessary unless you want to use the added length as a float rod. Switch rods are awesome. I am currently in the process of building one and just sold a couple of rods so I can check out a Meiser or Beulah some time.

MemberThanks Zach. The one thing Ive found out is that getting into photograhy is almost the same experience as when I first took up fly fishing…Like reading stereo instructions in Russian. ;D
