MemberHaliburton has an operation in Greene County.
I was correcting you that Haliburton provides chemicals and does in fact have operations in PA.

Member“Also it is well established that Dunkard Creek WAS NOT related in anyway to gas drilling…The link I posted clears that up…
This drilling business is not going away, and I also dont buy the Cheney connection as all the conspiracy theorists out there do. That company is hardly even run by him, he is much more of a figure head, not to mention halliburton isn’t even a corporation doing ANY business in our area, Hess, Chesapeake and several others are…or does Cheney pull those strings too.
Your article points out the discharge as being the main culprit for the Dunkard kill, but doesn’t say what was discharged. The Dunkard Creek kill was a combination of factors, the major one being a discharge from a mine that was accepting used frac water for “disposal” into a deep injection well. Mine discharges combined with frac water resulted in high salinity levels and high TDS levels. Mix a freak discharge during low/warm water and the bloom that decimated that fishery occurred overnight. Again, gas drilling was involved and advocates are doing just as much of a one-sided job of presenting the facts as Josh Fox in Gasland.
As to your other quoted point, I think you are speaking mainly from your side of the state. Halliburton has a big presence here in the Southwestern corner of the state, much like Chesapeake has a large force up your way. Take a ride on I-79 from Morgantown to Slippery Rock one day and you are bound to see them amongst the other Texas, Oklahoma, Wyoming and Kansas licensed Super Duties and Rams that are “bringing jobs to Pennsylvania”. Cheney pulled strings for everyone when he lobbied to back off regulation.
Dave has every right to be honked off. I’m fumed about this and I own about 1/100 the land that he does. What’s going on right now is corruption at it’s finest and I’m confident that will come to light sooner or later.

MemberAnother word on Gas Land…
Of course it’s one sided! The young man states his side in the opening scene of the film. Hippie parents who built a home on a tributary of the greatest wild trout fishery in the NE on several acres of land. And the water source for millions and millions of people.Jan 6, 2011 at 6:27 pm #46577greg kassimer
MemberFor those in SW PA, there is a coldwater conservation training program (M Shale) at St Vincents College, Jan 15.
