Nice Aaron! Its always great to play hooky and go fishing and those beautiful lil brownies make it 100% worth it! I like all of the photos, but I really like #2, #3, and #5. I found myself wanting to see the persons face in #2 (even if would be out of focus). #3 kicks butt IMO .. I like the colors, I like the sharp eye and the fly. Just my .02 🙂
Sounds like you had an enjoyable day Aaron good for you…everybody needs that once in a while. I really like the forth (can’t count sorry) one DOF and lighting is awesome but personally I would crop that bad boy down just a bit so that you get my subject in a third of the picture. Just my opinion. You could probably turn it in to a portrait style photo easily.
It was a great time. Very unusual for us, but we allowed ourselves to settle into it somewhere between mile marker 70 and 100 from our respective offices. Thanks for the thoughts, I will crop it down and post and see how it looks.
Corey – I personally like the last one. The depth in the top 3rd of the picture intrigues me a bit. I want to repeat that shot, with a little more DOF. So you can really see the bottom of the waterfall in the distance and more detail around the stones in the water behind the fish.
In the vein of this thread I was looking through some shots. More like what was origionally being asked for, fish in focus and soft face in background. I wasn’t so much shooting for that here, but it was a lucky accident.
I found this helpful on others shots so thought I would include 105mm at f/2.9
Nice. Yeah, I was originally asking for different looking fish and angler photos but I don’t mind the fish porn too.
I spent last weekend at the SE FFF Conclave and went to Zach’s fishing/photography lecture. Afterword we went to the water to take pictures. I learned a few good pointers about taking fish pictures while in a float tube. Before I was just holding the fish up and clicking but Zach suggested rotating the fish toward the camera and getting a forward but slightly skewed angle. What a great suggestion, here are some pictures with the head-on shots in the tube, much much much better than my old shots.
The way I used to take pictures in the float tube

Here are some shots after improving my methodology and pointing the fish head toward the camera.

Those new shots are great! The next time Zach does a photography lecture out west … I’m in!
more contributions to the fish porn.
last one I promise
Another thread I am finding late.
Hmm.
yes Sir…I wasn’t gonna take it personal
