Well, guys, down here in the bayous we roll our own. Here’s a Lousyana version of a drift boat I built last spring:

Ain’t too bad for the swamps and bayous, but probably wouldn’t cut it on a roaring river, eh?

    Best,

I too appreciated the article. I own the same model of Aluminum boat pictured going down the rapids. The comparison from different makes and models and material allowed me to confirm I made the right choice for boats.

If anyone is interested, there are 3-4 more models of the Alumaweld boats for sale (“used”, they have never been put in the water) with trailer. I can get you in touch with the seller. In D.C.

    Adam,
Here are some pics of the new gunnels I installed on the South Fork.  I cut them to 14’x.75″x1.5″ from a single piece of ash, routed the edges, sanded and finished them with a couple coats of teak oil — they really add to the rigidity of the boat when rowing.  I moved the oarlocks back flush, returned the anchor bracket to center and resealed all the storage boxes.  My next winter project is going to be glassing in a pvc pipe to the inside of the boat to conceal the anchor line.  I’ve also posted a pic of a pretty brown from the inaugural float down the Watauga two days after I got the boat.  The second fish is the biggest I’ve boated in the skiff so far, a 26″ beast my buddy Tyler caught on the Watauga last Tuesday.

Damn dude, I really miss that boat! I am still on the hunt for a G3.

I gotta say, it looks great with the wood, I had similar ideas but never put the time into getting it going.

Were you able to recover your anchor yet?

nice brownie by the way. It looks like the soho? I am going to try to get up there before the new year.
