MemberOk, I am in the market for a new hat. I do wear the old ball caps some but lets fact it, they are lousy for keeping the sun off your neck, ears, and face. They also aren’t very good when trying to spot fish since they allow glare to get in behind your glasses negating those high dollar polarized glasses we fly fishermen are so fund of. My fishing hat of choice for the last few years has been a USMC Boonie hat. It might look goofy but hey, if the Marines wear it, it aint goofy.

MemberIf I had requirement number 7 for a hat, I’d never be able to find one that met specs.

Cameron MortensonMemberMy choice for your above criteria is the Filson Tin Cloth Packer Hat.

MemberNow see, this thread illustrates exactly why you should have more respect for The Hat. You should go to Wal-Mart right now and get one just like mine, and stop bothering people with questions when the answer is so obvious. The Hat meets the majority of your requirements:
1. Definitely NOT gay. Not even “metrosexual.” Richard Simmons probably wouldn’t even allow The Hat into his house. And no, treebark camo does not count as a “flower pattern.”
2. It is wide brimmed. In fact, the whole reason I eschewed baseball caps in favor of The Hat was to reduce glare and improve fish spotting (also, I was getting tired of sunburned ears).
3. Non-cowboy. Can’t wear a camo hat around the horses, lest they mistake it for vegetation and try to graze on it.
4. Ventilated – little holes in the top!
5. Able to withstand torture. It withstands torture so well, there are probably pictures out there somewhere of Lyddie England giving it a “thumbs up.”

The Itinerant AnglerThis can’t possibly be a serious requirement – “counter your ugliness”?

MemberDo you have a picture of The Hat?
Mar 27, 2006 at 7:14 pm #11542brian dunigan
MemberOnly in the context of “grip & grin” photos. 🙂
But since you asked…

***Editor’s note:
I re-hosted your image, Brian; the link was to a php script that stores your images in some non-html way.

Cameron MortensonMemberNope…the photograph didn’t make it through…try again please…

MemberMaybe the hat is too ugly.
It’s showing up fine when I pull up the board on my computer. Go figure – maybe it’s the site hosting the image?
Is there a way to post a photo directly to the board rather than posting a link?

Edit:

The Itinerant AnglerNo, Brian, I can’t supply enough space to set up a photo hosting area with all the other crap I have on the server.

MemberBD, stop pimping yourself, this is a hat thread. The ohh, hey, look at me and my big fish I stole from Mike thread is somewhere below, but not here.

MemberMike, you could have caught that fish if you were wearing a Lucky Fishing Hat.
And Zach, thanks for re-hosting the image.

MemberSorry – I’ve been checking the forum every once in a while but haven’t looked at the pictures in a while.

Member🙂 Go for the Tilley hat. The one that looks like “the ugly hat”, but it’s tan coloured. They’re guarantied for life and will be replaced even if you lose it. If and elephant eats and it comes out opposite the trunk side, you can count on them for wear. I wear mine when it’s too hot for the baseball hat. Also because of cancer of the skin I use the highest rated sun screen. Good luck. Silver Doc

MemberOutdoor Research makes a pretty cool, Gore Tex hat that would meet most of your criteria. They are about $40 at REI, but considerably less from sources like Campmor and Sierra Trading Post.
