    I do like sand bass. We’re chasing them on my local lake right now, and they’re schooling in mass – many thousands of them actually. From the skiff, it’s a lot like playing “whack-a-mole” chasing them from blowup to blowup, and looking for birds.

    Since I guide for carp here in North Texas, I have a bit of experience on this one. I use the Mangrove for carp, then load up and go to the coast and use it for reds there (in 8wt actually). Great at the short tight shots, and still gets out there. Just about every line of rods ever built has what I call a “sweet spot” where weight and taper are in best harmony. I think it’s the 8 for Mangrove. Honestly though, I am having a complete blast with the Sage Bolt in a 6wt these days!
