Very nice drum Zach! Saw some at least that size that day, but no takers. I’ve realized that I need to sharpen my hooks before my next drum stalking, very tough mouths.

    Billy,
I use ” rope flies”. No hook. The fly is tyed using fine nylon rope. The fibers are tyed to the hook shank along with flash, tinsel, ect, and eyes are applied. Then bend and barb end are cut off. A very effective fly in 3 to 6 inch lengths. Fly removal involves a prop stick for keeping the gars mouth open and hemastats to pull the fibers out of the teeth. Try it out and good luck to you.

Great looking first fly! Looks way better than my first one. Great tips so far. I’ve only been tying for about 5 months myself. It deff helps to tye up a pattern 10-12 times before you try another pattern. My number 12 allways looked better than my first in a particular pattern. Welcome to another aspect of the addiction known as fly fishing! 🙂

Nice report! Thanks for sharing. Headed down to the panhandle area myself in a couple months. Very encouraging!
