The beavertail looks similar to a Waterman because they splashed the hull from HB and got sued.

I was having the same thoughts as you for about a year.  I first started with a jon boat I had already owned.  At the time I thought it was okay, but looking back it was awesome.  I was only using it for reds in the marsh and it cost $200 to put up a platform on the back. Myself or this weirdo in the pic could run it over any oyster bed and you just laughed.  The boat didn’t track that great, but it was light and floated shallow.  The boat was bullet proof.

Then I started to get serious I wanted the ability to make longer runs.  I was keeping my price range under 10k.  I checked out some Mitzis and boats alike but never really found anything that great for the money. I would have rather had a solid built hull from a well known manufacturer and have it be used so I started shopping for hells bays, mavericks, Eccs (prices going up, 10-16k).  You can find them, but they aren’t in greatest of shape.  I eventually stepped up and picked up a Hells Bay, but a true Gordon.
