πŸ™‚ Guys, this is the reel that I mentioned in another post about drags and how they each funtioned. It is a beautifully made reel. I then read their own reviews about the reel and

πŸ™‚ Steelhyde, I think that learning to tie in legs, (whether needed or not) will give you more confidence in your self and your flies. That does make a difference! I would also suggest that you might check around for help with different materials that can make tying in legs on smaller flies easier, or just google up patterns to see different materials that can be used. The type of legging material has to be changed sometimes on smaller flies. You’ll eventually learn all the tricks to make it a little easier. Good luck with those troublesome ties.

πŸ™‚ Fellas, I’ve been following this thread pretty closely since it started and I knew it was going to be interesting and informative from the outset. I have been using Ross and Bauer for a few years and if you guide in the Park very much, you are going to take some falls and get some dings on any reel. They have both held up well. While I was reading this thread, my wife came in with a new Cabelas catalog and it has a beautiful picture of their new SLA Reel on the front page. It says that it is the winner of the 2006 Best of the Best as seen in Field and Stream Magazine. I looked thru the catalog to get more info on this reel and it is a really nice looking reel. I looked at the price and it is a good medium priced reel. I then noticed that you can look at the reviews on this particular model and I clicked on the URL. I was amazed at the ratings that were given by several people and my thoughts were about the same as one person who had purchased this particular model. “Why in the world would you build a piece of equipment that looks this nice and put such a faulty piece of equipment into it?) Read the review.

πŸ™‚ Merry Christmas to you and everyone on this board. Thanks to Zack and Lauren for providing a place to share the beauty. Thanks to the friends that I’ve already made, and the knowledge and beauty in pictures is a great Christmas present in itself.

πŸ™‚ Mike, I haven’t had a chance to meet you, but my compliments to you on those great shots. Right up there with the best I’ve ever seen.

:)Good morning Billy, I can’t say that I added anything technical. I just clicked on Microsoft Office Picture Manager and brightened it up a bit. The camera and the subject did just about everything for me. I wish that I had enough experience in photography to help with technical advise, but I’ll have to say that is part of the reason that I’m on this website. That is one of the great features that it offers and I’d like to pick up as much knowledge as I can, myself. I’ll have to say that I surely admire all the accumulative knowledge that I have seen here. My hat is off to Zack and Lauren for the great group of people that they have drawn to the website.

πŸ™‚ Thanks Moosedog. We’ve been fortunate here for several days. It’s supposed to be 70 degrees tomorrow. I’ve been watching the weather coming onshore to the West Coast and it looks fearsome, with lots more out in the ocean heading inland. I feel for you guys on the left side. I fished the South Holston today and did moderately well. I was telling Jpovencello a minute ago about talking to three young guys that had taken 3 browns this morning that ranged from 18-24 in.

πŸ™‚ Good afternoon Don and Zack and all the others on the board. Seeing your post and introduction reminded me that I had not even introduced myself when I first joined and said hello to Zack and all the others. I did see a post right after joining and got involved in it, but I guess it took your introduction to remind me to do this properly, myself. Glad to hear that your a flytier and I look forward to seeing and hearing some “down home” yankee patterns. I’ll try to share a little of my East Tenn. experience with all of you. I’ve really been enjoying some of the articles, blogs, and photo essays that have been flowing on this board. I hope to get to talk or fish with some of you some time.

πŸ™‚ Thanks, Moosedog. I’m glad to hear that you’ve had some experience with Retrievers. I’ve had two Golden Retrievers, a Pointer and a Redbone Hound, but this is the first one that I’ve tried to train to retrieve ducks. He’s doing fine at the “retrieving part”, but I’m still working on the “surrendering part”. Since my wife and I both flyfish and guide, he is with us all the time on the water. He sure expends a

πŸ™‚ Guys, this is good stuff since the weather is so cold that it’s pretty uncomfortable outside in an icy river. This reply is going to have a little of everything in it so I hope it gives everyone something to read and look at. This kind of weather is great for duck hunting so Carolyn and I decided to take Boomer up to the South Holston River today. J, since you seem to have some problems with your dog I can symphathize with you and relate to where you’re coming from when your dog is a little headstrong.

in reply to: Too cold to fish! #14275

:)J, that is Boomer. He is about 70lbs now and just like Moosedog described about his dog. They are a pure bundle of energy and a delight to be outdoors with. He loves the water and I’ve really been working a lot with him on his hunting and retrieving skills. We take him with us when we’re not doing a guided trip and we have to watch him closely when one of us or someone close by hooks a fish. He’ll go right after it and chase it all over the river. I never dreamed of one retrieving trout. ;D. Moosedog, you have a beautiful companion there. I know you have to cherish him.
