Reel Trout Studio is now on Facebook! I've done a lot of things and been a lot of places, but at heart, I am an artist who loves the Pacific NW coastal region and all its denizens. or maybe its that I've been a lot of things and done a lot of places? 2003 started Reel Trout Studio Inc., creating realistic fish carvings and interpretive fish sculptures. Over the past 20 years, I have lived the reality of most of the rougher 'reality shows' including a stint as a commercial fisherman in Alaska's Deadliest waters (longliner), traveled to Africa to drill wells, build schools (handmade concrete blocks) & teach Pokot children, wandered the UK, my fathers ancestoral land (the name Knowlton is Saxon for Knoll Town - our name dates to the time of Harold. The manor house sits in county Kent, between the white cliffs of Dover & London near Canterbury - exciting history!) - I've been a contractor, built my own house & shop from the ground to the sky, from shovel to electrical. Married 20 years to my first (and only) wife. Fathered an incredibly smart and loving daughter. Survived a 90mph head on collision with a drunk and walked away from it - I must be part cat because I've used up at least 6 lives. I wander Alaska's wild places in search of native trout & salmon, and love this Great Land. Driven the Alaskan (Alcan) Highway (3000 miles) - 10 times. TWICE in winter - one of those times down the Cassiar in January (nuts!) and saw -65 F. Faced down both grizzly bears and black bears - many times. I've crept up on wild musk ox on Alaska's north slope. And I am still an outlaw in Peru. My current interests (besides watching Brit comedies with my wife Heidi or playing Wii with Brooke, my 10 year old daughter) are wood working, sculpture, painting, photography, trout fishing, wooden boats and trying my best to recreate Gustav Stickley's mission style furniture. Basically making expensive firewood. I live in the water and sawdust! I try to lead a quiet life in the country, but I chose for my new home town Wasilla, Alaska - home of our own Sarah Palin. I met Sarah (and Todd) on 5 occasions - she got our road paved - props to her for that! But we aren't on a regular speaking basis since she became famous. Oh - I also choose to live in the heart of the Pacific RING OF FIRE with numerous ACTIVE volcanoes surrounding me. And only one road out of here.
