If anything, this video can be used as a “What not to do While Fishing” piece to be viewed by novices.  I’m sorry, I can’t resist; some of my favorite quotes from “The Expert” in Episode 2:

“I don’t go out there to just catch fish, it’s figuring out what you’re doing. . .”
Good luck with that.  Judging by this video you failed on both counts.   You got skunked and are clueless.

“I was thinking, you know it’s funny that you fell, I’m sorry that you fell, but you’re scaring away my fish!”
No I’m pretty sure your complete incompetence scared away the fish.

Thank you all for the advice.

Thanks to everyone for their advice.  I did read the article in Eastern Fly Fishing and am eager to see what the North Coast has to offer.

While the author recommends an 8 or 9 wt. rod, the only thing I have close to that is my 6/7 Redington Crosswater–my first rod.  I know it’s an entry-level beginners rod, but it does get the job done.  Before I decide to commit some money to a better rod, I want to make sure that this is worth my time and effort.

Any thoughts on a nice, easy casting 8 or 9 wt. that’s not too expensive?

    Thanks,

    David
