    Hi Brian

I like this kind of stuff, really intresting aproach.

I think I will have to get myself one and go out and “play”.

How many rolls of film did you use to get the hang of the camera?

    Mike

    Thanks Mike.
I have been shooting with Holgas for some 15 years now. it didn’t take me that long to master them though…

    Hi Brian Welcome-

I’m almost tempted to buy a Holga just so I can legitimately ask for XXL condoms at the pharmacy without BS’ing :)))

Holga style- Diana/Fujipet type 120 cams were a big rage in the early 90’s in the ” fine art ” crowd- lots of great pics and bodies of work done with them .  Prob. always seems to be that the visual  syntax is very specific so the images work beautifully over a Holga/Diana/Fujipet 120 style series /narrative  but  don’t play well with other image forms in a visual narrative context. So while single images are interesting they often seem dis-conected.

Maybe  exploring an essay/topic specific  type approach using  the Holga
would be an interesting/refreshing FF’ing  piece?

    just a thought

    Will

ps- Love the pic and the other in your Hi post – you ever looked  at pinhole work? if you like plastic lens cam looks  you may like pinhole as well.

    Thanks for the comments Will.
I almost spit out my drink when I read the first line..

Yes I am exploring this as a long term project, you can see what I have so far on Flickr, I go by “Red Holga Man” over there.

Yesteday I was trying to think of how I could shoot with my holga in the water when I go bodyboarding with friends. We’re not doing anything gnarly so I wouldn’t need a rigid housing. I hadn’t thought of using a plastic zip-lock bag. I might as well give it a try! Thanks for posting. Oh and This shot turned out great. It looks like you’re under water with minimal distortion.

I have read, that others have tried unlubricated condoms, the XXL ones I am sure.

    Thanks for commenting Dave.
For me, it’s a matter of aesthetics I like the results I get from using such a rudimentary camera.
