A concern I would have is with the knot strength. I learned from a wise Alaskan guide many years ago that the knot strength deteriorates significantly when the rig is left strung up for even just overnight. The tippet to leader and tippet to fly connections will/could likley fail at the first tug. Maybe explains why many fisherman ‘break off” the first fish of the day.

Excellent report! Looks and sounds like it was great trip! Thanks for posting.

I for one appreciate the efforts put into and the info provided from ‘shootouts’ like this. Another term for what Yellowstone Angler did could be a ‘Gear Review”. Most of the flyfishing mags include gear reviews.
How many out there look at consumer reports before buying a car, or an appliance? How many of you cigar smokers look at the ratings of your chosen cigar in Cigar Afficiando (flyfishers love cigars

Well we canceled the trip. The outfitter simply cannot move around without gas, and food is becoming scarce as well. Will try to reschedule for earlier in the season next year…maybe December or early January.
As we sayaround here…..this is a wicked bummah! :-[
Goodluck Moosedog…hopefully your trip will still come off okay.

Thanks Brian….I have been following the situation as closely as I can from here and I spoke with my outfitter yesterday and it does not look good. He is almost out of gas, and the food shortages are also affecting him. I fear this trip will not come off. As you can imagine it is a big disappointment. :'(
Unless it ends today or tomorrow we will likley just reschedule until next year. Just the incremental increase in airfare if we were to try for the end of March would be about $1000.
I appreciate the offer for help though. It’s really too bad for the locals as I imagine a lot of tourist dollars will not make it to the area for the rest of this year.
Boy can I pick them…..my last trip there was during the 2010 earthquake……it just goes to show you that there’s always something! ::)

Nice report and exellent pics! I am heading down to the Coyhaique area in 10 days. As a previous member said seeing this just increases my anticiaption. I can’t wait to be there. Although I hope the unrest the Chileans in the region are undergoing settles down a bit.
