Mike I have the same rod holder on my kayak crate and both my 8 weights and 5 weights fit just fine. I just have to be careful around trees on the pond. I have no issues on the ocean though : )
Fun times on the river. Liked the video too. Never fished for stripers on a river, just tidal estuaries. Been out for stripers twice this season. Once for the Cheeky Schoolie tournament where we managed 16 fish between 2 of us all under 20″ from shore only. Last Sunday we paddled our kayaks out of Barnstable Harbor on the dropping tide and fished the flats and caught the incoming back in. We landed over 50 schoolies up to the low twenties. Great time on a fly rod. Hoping to get a “keeper” on the fly this year.
Looks like a fun timeI got the redington Sonic pros zip up this year and they are great. I fish a lot of heavily wooded rivers and brooks as well as ocean shoreline. They Are durable and comfortable with 4 layers at the legs and butt.
The feet are a little big and the zipper is a little tough to sip but it definitely hold out water.
Check them out on Sierra Trading Post for decent pricing. I still have my Simms headwaters but I have beat them and patched them several times. I am rough on waders and rods. That’s the reason I started building and repairing rods.Zach,
To answer your question about the cape, YES I often fish for stripers from the shore along the cape and also RI.
I am in central Mass near Worcester and it’s a about a 2 hour drive to the mid cape and 1/1/2 hour to Rhode Islands Point Judith
Montauk is on Long Island, New York and a good drive from the cape 3-4 hours and at least a 60 mile boat ride as the crow flies.
The schoolies should be in any day now as the herring are arriving already, even with the cooler water temps.
I will be fishing the cheeky fly tournament on the cape on May 31st, which is always a good time. It is fly only wading from shore only. I do get out in the kayak chasing stripers when time allows. Hopefully this summer I can do that more as a new job is on the horizon.

AlanI have 3 Jeeps in the driveway. ’06 commander is my fishing truck. Only issue I’ve had was my off roading dented the catalytic converter and cost me to replace it. No major issues with hauling etc. but they no longer make it. I am due to change the front struts this year, but more from my abusing it than normal wear and tear.
We have a 2013 Grand Cherokee limited for the wife. The design was done by Mercedes engineering when Diammler(sp.?)
owned them and is rock solid.

I have owned 4 jeeps over time and never any issues.A shout out from Central Mass. in the little town of Oxford, I’ll be 52 on St.Patty’s day with 3 of my 4 kids gone from the nest.
I am a HVAC tech/pipefitter and my specialty is industrial chilled water systems, mainly I build and service data centers for all you IT folks. I tie flies and build rods for a hobby and some extra cash. Just getting into photography.
Mostly fish for freshwater locally and in NE CT. and stripers, blues and false albies from shore and in the kayak on Cape Cod and RI shoreline. I do a yearly trip to chase steelhead and salmon on the Salmon River in NY.

AlanThis is my desk, kind of a “one of a kind” as the guy I bought off built it as a kid in the 70’s.
Holds a ton of materials and closes up to hide the mess. I never close it as my “cave” is in the basement adjacent to the boiler. To the left is a desk on which my rod wrapping machine and accessories lives as well as reels, line and tools for repairing the same. It’s on older pic and has since been cleaned up, upgraded light etc. I want to redo the desk and make it more presentable but really don’t need to. Just not my favorite color.
When I bring my DSLR out fishing I use a Clear Creek Swing Back Pack. Works great for my D5100 with a 70-200 lense, a 18-55 lense and set of filters in the lower compartment and 2-3 fly boxes in the upper compartment. I also bring a gorilla pod, water etc. When I want the camera it swing around and the camera is right there ready to shoot in no time. Not listed as waterproof but held up under a slip into the drink. inside is padded too. check it out.
I got the D5100 kit in June with 2 lenses battery charger etc. I bought a memory card, some filtersand a tripod. The camera takes nice pictures and is easy to use. It’s my first SLR camera and I like it. I like the camera editing feature.
