I finally finished the Wright and McGill 7’6″ 7wt 4 piece that I got from fishinbub earlier this year…It was a bit of task, due to the ferrule on the bottom section not coming off…but I hooked up with CoFlyfisher from Fiberglass Flyrodders and he hooked me up with a bunch of old parts…I wrapped the guides using a red silk thread from JoAnne’s which I was quite happy with it wasn’t as hard to work with like the Gossamer’s Silk thread…Once i got the parts in I had to cut about 6″ from the bottom of the rod to get a shim off, but once I did i had a perfect fit into the grip…I ended up putting about a 6″ wooden dowel to reinforce the blank where I cut it off…after getting that put together I started wrapping for the feather inlay and hook keeper…It was a whole lot fun due to some of the old grip still on the rod, I sanded it down as fas as I was comfortable with and made due…the feather inlay is ringneck pheasant and orange grizzly hackle…it looks great in the sunlight, but with the night the photos were hard to do…i tested it out tonight with a Power Taper 5wt line and was throwing a good 75′ cast with it, which wasn’t too bad since i was doing it all by feel of the rod and timing, I couldn’t make out the line…i can’t wait to get this thing on the water…
