InactiveDoes it seem strange to anyone else that the person who started this thread hasn’t even been on the site since the day it was posted. Just wondering 😕
Yes…I noticed.

Mark SchaferMemberI don’t think we’ve been had at all this is a great topic. I just thought it was odd to ask for information then not check back for 10 days. Perhaps she’s on a fishing trip.

InactiveGood point Zach…sometimes I forget that people aren’t like me…they actually get to fish! 🙁
Being away from a PC for 10 days would be a great thing!

MemberThanks everyone, I really apppreciate the feedback. I’ve just been really busy fishing and working, and haven’t had the opportunity to post again. The reason I started this topic is that I’m going to be doing a presentation at Cabelas in Washington on women in fishing, and the more information I can gather the better.
I’ve worked at a fly shop for the past 4 years, and I don’t think that the number of my female customers has increased much. Most women I know fish with their husband, and that’s how they were introduced to it. I also find it interesting that most men, from you guys on this forum to guides that I know and all in between, are very supportive and positive about seeing women involved, yet there is still this misconception that its a “man’s” sport. Even guys who wouldn’t necessarily want their wives to go out with them still don’t have a problem with other women doing it.
I definitely think that getting your daughters involved is huge. A lot of girls, I think, might be drawn away from fishing in their teenage years, but many will find their way back as adults. I find it amazing how experiences from my childhood influence what I choose to do as an adult.
Thanks again guys.

you’ve inspired a very interesting thread here — kudos!
I’m fairly passionate about fly fishing. so is my mother. and my 8-year old daughter is getting into it as well. so I’d be happy to share stories, answer questions. feel free to email me at flyfishchick @ live.com
I am more than happy to share personal experiences/insghts about women in the sport. but I am quick to point out I am a one-woman focus group. as a marketing professional I am often frustrated by the fact that all women anglers tend to be grouped together as one segment with unwavering tastes, thoughts, styles, etc. while women who fish have many overlapping experiences, I think there are some interesting sub-segments of females in the sport.
good luck with your presentation and please do feel free to email me if you’d like to chat further
cheers

Mark SchaferMemberAdrienne,
Please pass along any information you may have gathered as to how we can attract more women to the sport and how we can better service them in our businesses. Taking my favorite ladies fishing/hunting has forced me to think further ahead than I used to. It still amazes me whatJun 6, 2008 at 12:26 am #26194Aaron Otto
MemberAdriene,
I’m glad you’re not a hoax.
