Memberfor those who live up north but want to keep fishing heres some positive clothing reviews.. i purchased a pair of underarmor long underwear this fall.. .. they are not cheap, but in my opinion are fantastic… be carefull of what your buying, there is a model number on the tag, look it up in the internet to see if your getting what you want, they make warming type, cooling type and maybe different levels… my pants are fw064550 vsup401,,…….. the shirt is sso64557 vnicooo. one of these is the model number i forget which one is which.. football players use them(probably not this model) for warmth and ease of movement.. this shirt is very nice looking and can be worn as a top, and has a turtle neck for keeping warm…. next up are korker wading boots.. i got them for duck hunting becouse they are the only wading boot with walking/ hunting type soles.. they came with interchangeable studded felt and i put them on today for walking on the ice,, two thumbs up.. extreemly versital and good quality, i got one size larger than my summer boots so i can put a extra wool sock under.. i use the extra heavy pure wool sock with a lighter one under.. i got lucky and got a pendelton all wool shirt and all wool sweater at a sale about 3 weeks ago at an after christmas sale … it was about 2/3 off… i dont care what anyone says wool is great, especiall around water,or moisture.. the underarmor long johns go on first, another set of cotton long johns, and fleece pants,, wool shirts, a good winter mad bomber hat, i was toasty all day today.. it was fairly nice out tho.. a little hot driving home……… the other day it was colder and windy with the rod guides freezing up and i put on my christmas present from my boys over all this, an orvis next to thier best rain coat (it has a hood, and is dark green.. sorry i cant rememeber the model) but its not a lightweight rucksack type coat… 25 mph gusting

MemberLooking like a sausage, not performance or price, has made me reluctant to try Underarmor.

MemberSplit, There is all kinds of U.A. stuff. The original was the sausage making compression fit. I absolutely rely on it under body armor in the summer and also for general wear in hot weather under regular shirts.

Cameron MortensonMemberI’ve been kind of surprised to see Under Armor making a go at angling clothing.

Cameron MortensonMemberFor wool fans…Smartwool came out with long underwear tops and bottoms that look to be well built though a bit pricey.

Member:-/ I was at the Woolrich Co. outlet 2 weeks ago and was talking to one of the sales men. What I found out was that it now has every thig made overseas. Most of the clothing manufacturers are outsoursing all their work. The is hope however. Filson is the only co. that still makes its products here in the US. Gives one pause to reflect on what’s happening and how long can our economy survive this. Just some random thoughts. Where is your fishing equipment and clothing made?

Cameron MortensonMemberSilver Doc…this hurt my perception of the company…but Filson IS sending work off shore.

MemberThis hurts. I just bought my 2nd Filson veat, (the old one was falling apart) . I hope I didn’t make a mistake. Oh well I guess the instructions for use and care will be written in Chinese. What has happened to the US. Have the unions and the workers here gotten too darn greedy? Since I lost almost 40+ lbs since surgery I’ve had to buy sme new clothes. None of them have been made here. A sad commentary. S.D.

MemberMy favorite winter fishing garment is a yak wool sweater my brother bought for $5 while in Kathmandu. It is about 3/8s of an inch thick and sheds perspiration, retains heat, and repels water about as well as any treated plastic costing 50 or 60 times more. But, it smells like a yak when it is wet and can be a little scratchy. I would still take my Gore-Tex for an extended rain, and certainly a storm, but for off and on again drizzles or snow the natural fiber stuff is just fine. Especially gloves. I don’t think a $5 pair of wool gloves can be beat for winter fishing.
Dave, you, Steve, and Cameron have me convinced that maybe I should give the UA stuff a look–maybe the Smart Wool, too–for layering.
Thanks.

Trust me… it ain’t just the Unions and workers, though they are the easiest targets.
I get in many shops throughout the year. The workers here have given up pay raises, worked harder with fewer people and all but gave business everything they asked for except sub-minimum wage earnings and the tossing of health, safety and environmental standards to that of Communist Red China.
Those products went off-shore with the savings of doing so going to a very few, select people.I drive around and see nothing but chained and locked textile and furniture factories. Those jobs are history. The companies still exist and milk the name they built over the decades for all their worth but greed just took over. Not only at the bottom but mainly at the very top!
Those at the top could give a rat’s bottom what my kids and their kids will do for a living. Those business ‘leaders’ and politicians are set for several generations and they’re getting while the getting is good.
It peeves me to no end not to have American made options in many things I buy.
