David AndersonMemberHi Steve, I am a huge fan of my original Scott G series 2 weight (7’6′) and also had the G2 2 weight for a couple seasons, and the G2 is a worth successor.
Only complaint would be that the rod is a bit line fussy.
Not a problem once I put an XPS on it.
Here’s the review I did of the G2 2wt. for Flylife – http://www.flylife.com.au/library/tackrev/43/scottg2.htmlI also have a TXL 2 weight and 3 weight (7′) and both are sweet rods, with the 3 weight being my pick of them in tight water.
What I would recommend though, is the new 8′ ZXL 2 weight – it’s an awesome rod and matched up with a Rio Selective Trout II is brilliant on the stream.
I throw nymphs and hoppers with no problem.
It’s got more feel than the TXL 2, but still has some grunt.
Of all the 2 & 3 weights I’ve had over the years (it’s an obsession ;)) it is the pick – hands down.

The Itinerant AnglerSteve –
Although the WT is one of the slowest rods left on the market, it is an excellent rod.

chris zandoMemberI have a 9′ 3 weight Z Axis that I fish with a wf-4 and it does everything from dries to small streamers! It will protect a 7x tippet but can cast 75 feet of line.

Cameron MortensonMemberYou know I am all crazy about fiberglass fly rods…but if I were going to fish a lot of graphite I’d seriously go after the G’s and G2’s.

MemberI’d add that you should look at a longer rod and go up one weight too at least to 3 wt…..so totally agree with Zach on that…..if you ever think of trying Czech or even high stick techniques might want to even consider closer to 10 ft rods….some great rods out there in 10 ft. area that are great for this style of nymphing….I have used a Guideline 10 ft. 5 wt with success (before losing it on a bus LOL LOL)….and have seen great reviews on Guideline 10 ft. 3 wt…..but as I said there are other great makes out there too….know that Great Bay rods out of New Hampshire has a line of Czech nymph style rods in 11 ft. length in 3, 4, 5 wts…..design was assisted by Ian Colin James from here in Ontario….also used by Canadian Youth team

MemberDon’t look past the Scott S4 either – for me this is one of the great all-round freshwater fly rods on the market. I’m with Zach on the line weights – my personal collection stops at #3.

MemberI haven’t fished any graphite in a few years(bit way too deep by the fiberglass and bamboo bugs), but if you’re looking at the Winston LT’s, the 7’9″ 3 wt. is an incredible rod.
Have fun! Regards, SteveSep 25, 2009 at 8:51 pm #39228Chris Beech
MemberDave – Mayfly are the Australian Distributor of Scott rods, you’ll have to ask them. I’m sure they will loan you one if they have it in stock.

MemberSince you already have a Winston why not try the BIIx? The 8.5′, 4 weight is a pure joy with more range than most rods. That would be a far closer apples-for-apples comparison rod the the G2 from within the Winston stable.
