Couple weekend ago I decided it was time to put some new camo and technical gear through it paces by stalking some whitetails.

    How well did it work?
Well it was comfortable as could be, despite the cold (around -10) and I loved the fact I wasn’t dressed like the Michelin Tire man. It made the hiking/stalking with all my gear so much more comfortable.

Did it work vs the Whitetails?
Dunno. Wind was wrong for the fields I was checking and no amount amount of camo will beat a WTs nose. 🙂 I do though beleive in it.

    The back lit pic?
My friend Steve who was with me trying to work his way through the goldenrod into a shooting lane with my 500mm.

Pic of me taking a pic of Steve

And a pic of the some of the WTs we were stalking

I dig the breath condensation shot John – that backlight really makes the whole thing pop.

Hopefully you end up liking the Sitka stuff.

Brett I’m seriously sold on it.
    -10 before wind chill.
    All I had on was
200 icebreaker merino base (thanks for the info on these)
The OC traverse core T for mid
My Merril primaloft jacket (you can just see it peeking out at waist)
And the OC 90% pant, jetstream jacket
and I was seriously good to go.

One thing I have noticed is when sitting still for great lengths (say 30mins)

That deer on the left almost looks like a buck?

I agree Eric, I think the WT on the left is a young buck.
Heres another young buck I got the weekend before. You can definately see where the new growth is.

    Re Sitka gear.
I have more camo than I can shake a stick at as well. But I really dislike the way I need to “bulk” up when layering. So I decided finally (after being aware for a few years) to go Sitka. With the right layering for your climate it will keep you warm and it breathes. Thats one reason I dislike anything else I own. Once I start hiking ( im a spot/move/stalker) I end up sweating even if and when I vent, remove a layer.

Plus I have no reason to think or beleive the “science” behind their patterning isn’t what they say, unlike other gimmicky patterns or claims (Scent lok). What I would suggest is ask your buddies if you can try theirs for a day. Layer up as you normaly might and feel how the reduced “bulk” increases range of motion etc.

    Re Wts.
lol, Im such a WT junkie its not funny. I’m always open to any tips.

One day last year I was in a spot where the breeze wasn’t quite right. I took my buck bomb and doused myself….I ended up getting a great buck image but I smelled like buck pee all day and had to lstrip down and leave my gear in the garage to air out a bit 🙂
