I was in Little River Outfitters Monday, I had it on my to do list to ask questions about the Simms boots compared to the Chota SLT+. But we got off on other subjects and it slipped my mind. Why the Rivershed over the Guide? I want the best foot bed I can get and they will be used for standing in the boat chunking streamers and wading on the tailwaters. Felt will be reserved for the Smokies until the new soles prove themselves. I had 3 pair of Simms Guide model, say 3 or so years ago, first two pair broke across the ball of both feet after little usage. They were killing my feet after little time in the boots per day. I sold the 3rd paid and got the Chota’s, the Chota wading boot and Keen H2O sandals are the only shoes I can wear without my custom orto’s. I have Plantar fasciitis.

IMO studded felt provides the best traction.  Though not without it’s drawbacks – environmental concerns, snow build up and the studs are no good in boats.  I’ve got another pair of sticky rubber and they are OK but inferior traction wise to studded felt.

Exl – Sorry to hear about your boots.  My guess is that your experience is the exception, being far from the rule.  In terms of your comments about Patagonia’s guarantee – what is there to complain about “Iron Clad”.  In my experience they stand behind everything they make – lifetime.

Cam, I think Zach summed up my feelings pretty well. The Rivershed is a nice boot and WAY lighter than the G4’s. I lugged the G4’s all around NZ and there were many days I wished I had lighter boots.

If you plan on using these boots only for wade fishing you might want to consider studs as well. There are some river bottoms that the “new” vibram soles simply will not grip.

My old aqua-stealths finally bit the dust this year and I picked-up a pair of G4s. I like the support.

Fellows…thanks for all the opinions and suggestions.  I was pretty set on the Simms Guide boot but in the end ordered the Rivershed boot.  Can’t wait until they arrive.  Ready to put some miles on them.
