I know this is a personal preference type of thing but I’ve been looking into getting a new 6wt. I have a few Orvis tls power matrix rods in a 4, 5, and 8wt and I like them ok but I’ve been wanting to replace my old clearwater 6wt that was my first flyrod. I have a friend that works for for Orvis, thats why all I have is orvis rods, but I’ve really been wanting to branch out and I’ve been looking at Scott rods. I can’t really see spending more than $400 on a rod. So heres my question. I see where Orvis is having a sale on the T3 rods- the 4pc 6wt Im looking at is $400 and The scott A3 I’ve been looking at is a good deal less. Which should I get and why? Are the T3 rods worth the extra cash?

Orvis discontinued the Zero Gravity rods not too long ago, replaced by the ZG Helios. Some shops still have some original Zero Gravitys hanging around. That is what I would be looking for if I were in your boat. But if you are wanting other sticks <$400, look to TFO, Echo, Beulah. If you can find a Zero Gravity, cast it along with a T3; you will see and feel the difference.

Darrell, see if you can find a Scott E2 #6 on clearance – both the 9′ and 9’6″ are really nice rods in the #6. They were discontinued last year but you might still find some.

    Best Regards,

E2 is a great rod if you can find one, and you cannot go wrong with an A3 at the price.
